RHS Panthers wrap up ’08 season

RANGELY — The Panthers hosted the Paonia Eagles last Friday for the last game of the season. The Eagles took it to Rangely and finished with a 58-21 victory.
Paonia finished their season in second place in the league and advanced to the playoffs, which start this weekend.
Rangely had 324 yards of offense in the game including 256 through the air.
Travis Witherell led the Panthers with 110 yards receiving and one touchdown. The other touchdowns were scored by Kanden Brady on a two-yard run and Keane Raley on a 14-yard pass reception.
The Eagles had 349 yards of total offense but 342 of those were on the ground.
A couple of records were broken during the evening.
Adam Dahl broke the single-season receiving record previously held by Keenan LeBleu from 2003. Dahl racked up 671 yards on 33 receptions besting Keenan by 16 yards. Dahl also set a couple of single-game performance records with games of 146 and 140 yards receiving. This moved him into the fifth and seventh spots.
The No. 1 single receiving game was by Dean Barrett in 1956 with 195 yards against Steamboat Springs.
Dahl also moves into the No. 10 spot in scoring with 42 points and No . 10 in all-purpose yards with 671. This list is a combination of all ways that you can gain yards including defensive returns.
Kanden Brady also broke some records this season.
Brady had 1,667 yards passing, which eclipses Luke Scott’s 1,538 yards in the 2003 season.
One of the plays that put Brady over the top was when a pass hit a Paonia defender in the back of the helmet and bounced back into Travis Witherell’s hands for a 72-yard gain.
Brady also joined the single game performance list in the fourth position (303 yards), ninth (260 yards), 10th (256 yards) and 11th (252 yards).
The top passing game was in 1991 when Pancho Florez threw for 346 yards in 10 inches of snow at Soroco.
Brady also took the top spot on the total offense list with 1,802 yards.
This list combines passing and rushing yards on a season. Brady had 111 completions on the season on 244 attempts, which gave him a quarterback rating of 111.7. Kanden also takes the No. 10 spot in total tackles with 43 and No. 4 in interceptions with four.
The Panthers averaged 185 yards through the air each night out.
In all, Rangely threw for 1,690 yards during the season, which moves them into the No. 1 position on the top five passing teams list.
Others who made the record book were: Travis Witherell (No. 5 receiving, 436 yards; No. 3 kickoff returns, 470 yards; No. 4 all purpose yards, 1,072 yards); Kindal Cushman (No. 9 kickoff average, 37.5 yards; No. 2 punting average, 34.8 yards; No. 10 tackles for loss, 6.5 tackles); Michael Morton (No. 5 PAT percentage, 61.9 percent; No. 5 sacks, three sacks; No. 7 tackles for loss, 7.5 tackles); Clark Worrall (No. 7 kickoff returns, 201 yards); and Blake Mecham (No. 5 sacks, three sacks; No. 6 tackle for loss, nine tackles).
Thanks for your support of Panther football this season.
