RANGELY I Two Rangely students came out on top at the Mesa State Math
Extravaganza on Thursday, Feb. 10. Andrew Morton and William Scoggins tied for
first place along with a few others in the individual math contest taken by 150
students from across the Western Slope. McKale
Pennel of Rangely tied for third place.
Mesa State annually hosts high school math students at the competition. Mesa’s math
department also introduces students to robotics and other real-world problem-solving situations that involve math. It’s
a fun day with mini-seminars and tours, the contest and prizes.
Tracii Friedman of Mesa’s math department has
organized the event for years and says it’s all about exposing the students to
math in a fun way.
Other Rangely students who participated in this year’s Math
Extravaganza are Marie Morton, Rose Peterson, Justin Prosser and Heather
Turner.
