RHS track boys first, girls second

The Rangely High School Panther track team played host to a five-school track and field meet in Rangely on Saturday and one of the highlights of the meet was Rangely’s Brennan Noyes, who is seen here clearing the high jump bar at an impressive 6 feet 4 inches.

RBC I The Rangely High School track team hosted their own invitational on Saturday, and several strong performances emerged as the athlete fought cool windy conditions. The boys won their meet while the girls finished second.

Freshman Phalon Osborn was the lone runner in the 100-meter hurdles finishing third with a time of 19.96.
Freshman Marshall Webber competed in the 100 hurdles for the boys, finishing third as well in a time of 21.28.
Miekka Peck and Makenze Cochrane finished fifth and sixth, respectively in the 100-meter dash. Patrick Scoggins and Kaulan flew the track in the 100 dash and finished first and second with respective times of 11.69 and 11.78.
Aspen Rhea tackled the 200-meter dash in a time of 30.39 for fourth while Scoggins continued his winning ways in the 200 dash with a time of 23.42. In the 300-meter hurdles, Webber had a strong performance from the outside, finishing fourth in 49.77. In the last dash event, Rangely won the girls’ and boys’ events with Lindzey Thacker crossing the finish line in a time of 1:08.8 for the girls and Scoggins winning in 52.13 for the boys.
Rangely’s RaeLynn Norman was the lone representative in the 1600-meter run, taking second in a time of 6:22.44. David Fox and Daniel Connor took second and fifth, respectively, with times of 5:22.39 and 5:47.98. In the 800-meter run, Norman and Kassidee Brown finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 2:58.20 and 3:01.92.
In the last of the distance events, Connor was the only Rangely runner in the 3,200-meter run, and he finished third with a time of 12:32.33.
In the field events, Rangely had eight throwers compete in the discus for the girls: Miekka Peck at 88-2 for second, Makenze Cochrane at 78 for fifth, Mikayla Filfred at 68 for eighth, Breanna Davis at 65-11 for ninth, Anna Forbes at 60 for 10th, Elena Forbes at 58-3 for 11th, Kaylee Mecham at 56 for 12th and Alexis Wiley at 53-7 for 14th.
The boys were led by Chance Sheppard with a first place with a discus throw of 119-2, followed by Austin Ficken at 100-2 for fifth place and Cameron Filfred at 82-7 for seventh.
In the girls’ shot, Rangely had Makenze Cochrane at 30-2.5 for third, Breanna Davis at 27-2.5 for fourth, Miekka Peck at 26-1.5 for fifth, Mikayla Filfred at 25-6 for seventh, Kaylee Mecham at 20-7.5 for 11th, Anna Forbes at 19-9.5 for 12th, Elena Forbes at 18-11 for 13th and Alexis Wiley at 18-9.5 for 15th.
Chance Sheppard led the boys in the shot at 36-9 for second followed by Austin Ficken at 36-2.5 for fourth and Cameron Filfred at 26-6 for 9th.
In the high jump, Lindzey Thacker had a jump of 4-9 to win the girls’ event while Brennan Noyes cleared 6-4 to capture the boys’ side. Kaulan Brady finished second, clearing 6-1.
In the girls’ triple jump, sisters Katelyn and Kassidee Brown jumped 32-2.25 and 26-4, respectively, to earn first and fifth.
On the boys’ side, Troy Allred jumped 40-3.5 for a first-place finish with Noyes following close behind in second with a leap of 38-1.
In the long jump, Katelyn Brown finished first at 14-1, followed by Aspen Rhea at 14-.5 for second and Kassidee Brown at 10-2.5 for eighth. Kaulan Brady won the boys’ long jump at 19-4 with Troy Allred finishing third with a jump of 17-11.75.
The team will compete Friday in Montrose.
