RANGELY I This past weekend, the Rangely High School Track Team competed at the Western Slope Multi-League Track and Field Championships in Grand Junction, and throughout the two-day meet, there were many great performances, many coming from athletes wearing “Rangely” across their chests.
Senior Kaulan Brady showed a ton of heart this weekend, setting a few personal bests. Just a little while after he set a personal best in the 100-meter dash with an 11.73 and qualified for finals, he started the long jump a little slowly, however, he still jumped his way into finals for that as well.
When the long jump finals came about, Brady decided to completely crush his old record by jumping 20-9 and winning the long jump. Kaulan later went on to place eighth in the 100 dash finals, take second in the high jump at 5-10, and helped the 4×100-meter relay to a new best and a fourth place finish.
Daniel Connor is another senior who had a great meet. He ran the open 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.53, which is a personal best. Daniel also was a very big part of the 4×400-meter relay when some of the usual runners weren’t a part of it. Connor led the team to its seventh place finish. Daniel was also a part of the 4×100-meter relay team.
Chance Sheppard, another senior, also showed up big in the discus. He threw a personal best with a throw of 119-2, placing seventh and he threw the shot put for a distance of 34-7. All year long, Sheppard has been throwing well and pushing himself. He has been a good leader for the rest of the throwing squad as well.
Austin Ficken and Cameron Filfred joined Chance as the other boy throwers. Austin threw a 34-7 in the shot put and then 100-7 in the discus. Filfred set a personal best in the discus with a throw over 95 feet and then threw the shot put 27-1.5.
David Fox ran the 200-meter dash with a personal best of 27.32 followed by Brennan Noyes with a time of 27.36. The two also teamed up in the 4×400-meter relay along with Daniel and Marshal Webber.
Along with the 200 meter, Brennan won the high jump at 6-0 and took third in the triple jump with a set of leaps for a distance of 38-0.75.
Patrick Scoggins joined the 4×100-meter relay team to help it reach its new best. He also set a new personal best in the 100 dash with a time of 11.70, taking fifth. Scoggins also added the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run into his weekend of racing, placing second and third, respectively.
Webber joined in with the great weekend of racing by placing eighth in the 110-meter high hurdles with a 20.81. He also ran the 300-meter hurdles to take ninth with a time of 49.07. Each of these times were personal bests, which were great to go with his help in the 4×400-meter relay.
Freshmen Breana Davis and Mackenzie Cochrane played a big role for the girl throwers this weekend.
Davis set a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 28-8 and Cochrane had a personal best in the discus with a throw of 92-6. The two also participated in running events that they are not quite used to, however they did great in them. Davis ran a 16.95 100 dash and Cochrane ran in the 4×400 relay.
Mikayla Filfred joined the girls throwing in shot put and discus—posting a 22-10 in the shot put and 71-5 in the discus. Miekka Peck also threw the discus with a throw of 82-3.
RaeLynn Norman and Kassidee Brown were the team’s mid-distance runners this weekend, running the 800 with times of 2:50.62 and 3:03.39, respectively. The girls were a part of the 4×400 relay as well. Norman also ran the mile with a personal best of 6:08.24.
Katelyn Brown long jumped a personal best of 15-1 and triple jumped a distance of 32-7. Aspen Rhea joined Brown in the long jump with a jump of 13-11.5. Rhea also ran the 200-dash with a personal record of 29.65, taking sixth place.
Lindzey Thacker was able to take fifth place in the 400 dash with a personal best of 1:05.07. Thacker also cleared 4-8 in the high jump.
Phalon Osborn ran the 100-meter hurdles to set a personal best of 19.08 along with the 4×400-meter relay team. Rhea, Osborn, Brown and Thacker also made up a 4×200-meter relay.
