The team came out strong in the match and never looked back as they won the first game 25-10. Their serving was nearly 90 percent as a team, led by Katye Allred with 21 serves and only one error. Lindzey Thacker had 16 serves, Katelyn Brown added 14 and Antoinette Dorris had nine. The Panthers won game two 25-14. Halie Elam and Katelyn Brown had six digs each and made it extremely difficult for Hotchkiss to get any kind of offense going.
Rangely did not let up going into the third and final game and won 25-9. The team played Paonia on Saturday, and the up-tempo offense of the Eagles proved to be extremely tough. Rangely had some offensive success as Katye Allred had five kills, Katelyn Brown and Sarah Connor each added three and Lindzey Thacker had one.
The team fell in game one 14-25 but came back and played right with Paonia in the second game. Carrie Goddard had five digs in the match, Lindzey Thacker had four, Halie Elam added three, Justyne Dembowski had two and Antoinette Dorris and Corinne Coombs each had one dig. The Panthers lost game two 21-25, and fell in the third game 16-25. The Rangely team once again served the ball very well as they were 94 percent as a team. The Panthers will play Plateau Valley this weekend.
Coach Mergelman said she was pleased with the way the team played on Friday night and said, “The team played very well in game two against Paonia, if that would have been game one, the outcome may have been different.” The team proved they have the talent to play with any team and this season looks to be very promising for the Panthers.
