RANGELY I In its first league match of the season, Rangely showed why it’s considered a favorite to win the Western Slope.
The Lady Panthers beat De Beque in three games.
Rangely won the last two games fairly easily; however, in the opener, the Lady Panthers struggled a bit.
“The first game was pretty tight, due to a mixup on alignment,” said Rangely coach Jimmie Mergleman. “We were pretty proud of them to keep their focus and work through adversity to create a win.”
Mergleman said the close first game showed her something about her team.
“The first game showed how a team can come together and find ways to win,” said the Lady Panthers coach. “The second game was a little more one sided. After we made some adjustments with the lineup, the girls play well. In the third game, the girls continued to excel. They played with great intensity and enthusiasm.”
Scores from the games were: 25-23, 25-17 and 25-10.
Marie Morton led the team with 13 kills, followed by Dakota Kenney with 11 and Rozilynn Thacker had 10. Audrey Hogan led the Lady Panthers in assists with 22 and ace serves with four.
“These girls are coming together with every week, and it is really great to see,” Mergleman said.
Next up for Rangely is another league matchup Friday at Paonia, and then Saturday the Lady Panthers travel to play North Park.
