RANGELY I The lady Panthers lost to Vail Mountain at home last Friday but traveled to Walden the next day and beat the lady Wildcats in five games.
“Overall we played well against Vail Mountain, just not good enough to pull out a win,” head coach Jimmie Mergelman said. “Brittany Babineaux played well and stepped up her leadership role also.”
Babineaux led the team with 14 kills and eight blocks against Vail Mountain.
Rangely lost the first game 17-25, then won the second 25-22 before losing the next two and the match 22-25 and 17-25.
The long trip to Walden did not seem to affect the lady Panthers at first, as they easily won the first two games 25-13 and 25-18 but then lost the next two 15-25 and 18-25, forcing a fifth and deciding game.
“The first two sets we played well and then kind of let up in games three and four but pulled out the win in game five,” Mergelman said. “Myriah Moreno played really well, stepping up and setting for us because Aimee Hogan was out with a hurt hand.
Babineaux led the team again with 20 kills and eight blocks. Senior Quincey Thacker recorded 19 kills in 83 attempts and five blocks.
Rangely will travel to Hotchkiss this Friday and host Plateau Valley Saturday for parents’ night. The JV start at 1 p.m.
