Meeker High School sophomores Jordan Smith (left) and Taylor Morris participated on the Rifle High School fastpitch softball team this year ending the season at the state tournament in Aurora, Colo. The pair began play in August with teammate Torrie Gerloff, but due to injury Gerloff was not able to finish out the season. Outfielder Smith found herself battling injuries but finished out the season strong with 11 runs and 3 RBIs. Morris sported a .333 batting average and was moved around between pitching, first base and third base as well as a pinch-runner for the pitcher. The duo plan to try out for the team again next year. “The team appreciates the hard work and perseverance of the girls to get to practice and giving 100 percent everytime they were on the field,” varsity coach Cindy Skinner said of Smith and Morris.
