• Burke Brothers, who recently bought the Metz ranch on Piceance Creek, have brought in a fine bunch of cattle which they have turned loose on Piceance and the lower country.
• Barring unlooked-for contingencies, the Hon. H.H. Eddy, representative-elect from the Routt and Grand district, will be speaker of the next House session. Mr. Eddy has served eight years in the upper house of the Colorado Legislature and his long legislative experience qualifies him to fill the speaker’s chair acceptably.
• Tom McNeil, formerly in the employ of the L07 outfit, is in from Utah on a visit. Tom is now working for himself, having located on the Green River with a bunch of his own. Success to you, Tom.

• Dick Sprod and Dean Dickman left Friday for Oakland, Calif., where they expect to resume their studies at the Polytechnic College. They were accompanied by Bill Valentine, Glen Hauck and Jack Legg, who plan to look around and visit relatives for a few weeks.
• Mr. and Mrs. Pat Murray and daughter were over from Kremmling last weekend, visiting home folks for a couple of days.
• Mrs. John McCormick was over from Rifle first of the week visiting her mother, Mrs. Al Strehlke, and other Meeker relatives and friends.
• Mrs. Mary Hossack returned home Tuesday evening accompanied by Mrs. Fred Hamilton, who has been in St. Joseph’s Hospital for several months. Mrs. Fred Hamilton is the last one of those injured in the train accident in September to return home. Mrs. Chas. Grove and Mrs. Roy Graham returned at Thanksgiving time.

• Lena Richardson went to Denver on the 22nd to visit her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmidt. They and other family members enjoyed a family Thanksgiving dinner with their granddaughters, Paula and Larry Smith. Lena returned home on Sunday the 27th.
• Helen Cox was the lucky winner of an afghan at the recent Fritzlan Resort party. Young Susan Dole drew the winning ticket. Congratulations, Helen!
• Robert and Darlene Ouellette and family were visited by Darlene’s mother, Mrs. Eidt of Vienna, W.V. Mrs. Eidt, who arrived shortly after Thanksgiving, returned home Tuesday.
• Mr. and Mrs. Bob Carden drove their son, Eddie Blare, to Salt Lake City on Sunday morning. Eddie is to undergo a battery of tests. Following his release, they will return him to his home in Craig.

• Mr. and Mrs. Lodeman Jones returned home Sunday from a visit with their daughter and family, the A. B. Smiths, of Rainbow Valley, Ariz. While there, they also attended the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix.
• Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Danielson entertained the following guests at Thanksgiving dinner: Mrs. Danielson’s niece, Miss Lynnette Jung of Glasglow, Mont., who is working on her masters degree at the University of Utah; their son, Mark, and a friend, Bud Jones, both attending CSU; and Mr. and Mrs. Lucio Peralta and children.
• Mr. Charles Hefley of Crystal Meadows was in town last Monday and visited his sister, Patricia Cooper. Mr. Hefley took home with him his wive’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Geoder. Mrs. Hefley drove them back home Wednesday. Mrs. Geoder reported seeing about 150 elk in one herd near Paonia.
• Mr. and Mrs. J. H. James and children were guests Thanksgiving weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bass. The Jameses are formerly from Rangely. They lived here two years, and in Red Wash, Utah, for two years. Then, last August, they were transferred to Casper, Wyo., where the family now makes its home.

• Phylis Franklin visited with Mrs. Robert Harris on Wednesday. Tea and homemade bread were served.
• Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mueller went to White River City last week. They stayed at the Jim Steele place to see after the stock and do chores while the Steeles went visiting to Riverton, Wyo.
• Maureen and Gary Corbin from Steamboat Springs visited with their parents, the Forest Crowns this past weekend. They were also guests in the Robert Coy home.
• Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hume are back home in Rangely now. Bill came the 18th. He had been in the armed services in Hawaii. Joyce came last Wednesday; she had been with her parents, the Stockmans.

• Roy and Julie Cramer wish to announce the birth of their son, Ross Ira. He was born Nov. 15, 1983. He weighed 4 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Gene and Jeanne Roelfsema of Casper, Wyo. Paternal grandparents are Bob and Dorothy Cramer of Big Piney, Wyo. Ross’s grandfather is Ira W. Cramer, formerly of Rangely and now of Big Piney.
• The home of Denise Staley was the setting for Theta Zeta’s pledge and jewel pin ceremonies that were held on Nov. 28. Jean Kump welcomed LouDean Yardley, Phyllis Zadra and Lisa Sheridan with a lovely candlelight pledge ceremony, where they received their pledge pins. The new pledges also received a small token of welcome that was handmade by our Rush chairman, Lou Tolley.
• Seven Rangely wrestlers attended the Montrose Junior Varsity Tournament, and four placed in their weight class. Placing were Joel Matrisciano (119), first; Hank Allred (145), second; and Mike Inderlied (126), second; and Bryan Sisneros (Hwt), third. These wrestlers did a good job wrestling, but did not have much of a chance as a team with only seven wrestlers out of 12 weight classes.
• Starting the 1983-84 basketball season right was Coach Pat Burns’ girls’ team with two victories. The Panthers edged Class AA Meeker 50-49 at Meeker Friday night, then they followed up with a 60-29 win over Altamont, Utah.
