• The Meeker Cafe and Lounge were sold to a Denver couple, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Springer.
• Headline: “Oil Well Drilling the Most Active It Has Been In Years.”
• At A. Oldland & Co.: Needlepoint hose, $1 a pair while they last. Rugs, 24” by 46”, $2.29.
• Mrs. Martha Ridings left for Big Piney, Wyo. where she will assist her son Bob Ridings and wife who are moving from Big Piney to Rangely.
• “When folks have a serious disagreement, they seem to keep it alive by arguing about a lot of little things instead of the issue.”
• Keith Burdick and Gus Halandras left this week for Boulder where they will room together while they attend Colorado University.
• Shelley McKee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie McKee, was the victim of a freak accident in which a muzzle loading pistol accidentally discharged. The bullet struck him in the arm and broke the bone.
• It is cloudy as we go to press and looks like we are in for our equinoctial storm. Meeker has had the longest growing season in several years.

• The winner of the 1989 Sheepdog Trials was Jack Knox and his dog Maid. The team went home to Virginia with a $2,560 purse for their winning efforts.
• A busy week for Meeker emergency services responding to an accident at the Rio Blanco Store that sent five people to the hospital. Travis Nielsen wrecked his bike on Park Ave. and was kept overnight at the hospital. Debbie Woodall gave birth to a premature five-month old baby at her home.
• Marge Rogers and Carolyn Sullivan were planning a 50th anniversary celebration for the Meeker Elementary School.
• The Cowboys were preparing for Paonia after a 36-6 romp over Junction J.V.’s. Meeker’s Willie Theos was having a blue ribbon year at his defensive end position.
• The Cowgirls volleyball team beat the Mustangs from Kremmling.
• The White River Trading Company and White River Sporting Goods stores opened Sept. 12 at the corner of Sixth and Main. White River Trading Company was owned by Linda Steele and her sister, Barbara Swanson. White River Sporting Goods was owned and operated by Darren Arnold, who is Linda Steele’s son.

• Rangely’s new junior high school building will be located north of the highway at the went end of town, according to the Rangely board of education.
• A “fire bug” was considered responsible for six fires set in the Rangely are in less that a week.
• The 4-cent Dental Health Commemorative Stamp is now available at the post office.
• The Charles Enterlines are the proud parents of a new baby boy, Rory Patrick Enterline.
• Richard Tucker left for San Antonio, Texas, for Lackland Air Force Base after passing his physical.
• Kenneth Hayden got his first deer, a 2-point buck, with a bow and arrow the first day of hunting season this year, at the distance of 75 yards.
• The Mountain States Telephone company offered the latest in telephone technology: The Princess Phone, styled to blend beauty with practicality. Five smart decorator colors — white, beige, pink, blue and turquoise. The dial lights up!

• A multi-jurisdictional drug sweep netted 15 arrests, including one Rangely Man.
• Target Trucking satisfied the complainers and the council by attending the council meeting to discuss complaints made by Michelle Huber and Stormy Peterson.
• Marty and Laura Elder added another branch to the Elder’s family tree, Michael James Elder. Michael has an older sister, Amanda, and and older brother, Martin, to help welcome him home.
• Shirley Cox of Rangely won first place in the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials art contest. She received $200 and her picture will be on the 1990 poster.
• Bill Mackin, author of “Cowboy and Gunfighter Collectibles” has donated his book to the library for public use.
