• The FBI reported on a skull found on the upper White River near the Lewis ranch and said it was possible the skull was that of Herman Park, who disappeared from the ranch nearly 30 years earlier.
• The work on the Meeker airport is nearing completion.
• Last winter Frank Cooley conducted a ski class for a group of young people. The Forest Service has listed the Nimerick Point area on the upper White River as being suitable for a fine ski course and winter sports playground.
• The Joy Motor Co. held an open house to show off the new line of 1960 Ford cars. Probably the greatest interest will be shown in the Ford Falcon and the Thunderbird line.
• Miss Sally Jenkins wed Ron Hilkey at the Meeker Methodist Church with Rev. Erwin Simmons officiating.
• To date Meeker hasn’t had any snow to cover the ground.
• Lightning struck a straw stack on the John Boulton ranch on Divide Creek Tuesday night and set it on fire.
• Meeker dumped Craig in the homecoming game by a 20-6 count. Pat Sheridan broke the game open by returning the kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.

• For the second time this year, the Meeker golf course was vandalized but the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Department has already picked up two local juveniles who are believed to be involved. Taking one of the golf carts from the clubhouse, the youth drove around the course late Friday night breaking off five sprinkler heads and damaging some of the greens. Following that, they attempted to drive the cart into the river where it was spotted next to the 10th Street bridge the next morning.
• Bobby Joe and Felicia Compton announced the birth of their son, Bradly Ray, at Pioneers Hospital.
• The Town of Meeker “all but turned down” the offer to take over the Fairfield Center.
• The annual influx of big game hunters got under way in earnest Wednesday as hundreds of out-of-state hunters lined up to shell out $210 for an elk license or $120 for a deer permit.
• The Cowboys resumed their winning ways to crunch the Rangely Panthers 26-6. Meeker’s defense harassed Rangely’s Nick Lancaster all night long with Brian Lake, Jeromy Main and Willie Theos putting the pressure on.
• Misty Dawn Ary and Christina Michelle Amick celebrated their first birthdays.

• Last week the cost of gas went up a full penny, when an additional cent tax was added, bringing the total state and federal tax on a gallon of gas to 10 cents. This is 40 percent of the retail price of the fuel itself.
• At the Rig Theatre: Robert Mitchum in “The Angry Hills,” Audie Murphy and Sandra Dee in “The Wild and the Innocent,” and Rock Hudson and Jean Simmons in “This Earth is Mine!”
• Letter to the Editor: “This past year we have spent cleaning up our property and seeding a new yard. What do we get now? Horses in the yard every night. “I think something should be done about them running loose in town.”
• Billy Johnson and Johnny Justus were chosen as lineman and back of the week for the Panthers.
• Jerry Crook, junior defensive back, was cut from the Panther grid squad in disciplinary action by Coach Wargo. Crook was cut for his failure to report to the practice field last Monday.
• Dog food, 24 cans in a case, $1.98 at Bestway. Sirloin tips, 98 cents a pound.
• The Ladies Shoppe: Dresses as low as $4.98, $1.98, 98 cents.

• Colorado Northwestern Community College purchased the Sagewood Apartments.
• A baby girl, Michele Lee, was born to Jan and Alan Pfeuffer.
• A baby girl, Marylanna Paige, was born to Denise and Joseph Carstens.
• A baby boy, Christopher Shane, was born to Debbie and David Karschner.
• Between the ages of 25 and 34 the average American gains 7 pounds, the greatest gain of any 10-year period between ages 25 and 74.
• New releases at Family Video: “Land Before Time,” “Fletch Lives,” “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and “Pet Cemetery.”
• Local governments expected to receive $6.8 million for tax-exempt lands in PILT payments.
