The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• Channels 2 and 5 have been extra good and Channel 4 is pretty good, but still has some “snow.”
• Bruce Motor Co. will be showing the new 1960 Dodge Saturday. The all new Dodge features a big, solid body with the revolutionary Unibody construction.
• Meeker’s 1959 football team was honored at the annual gridders banquet. Pat Sheridan, one of this year’s team captains, was toastmaster and he and the other co-captain, Chris Halandras, made several remarks concerning the past season. Miss Sheri Whalin was crowned football queen.
• The White River Electric crew was out putting in new light bulbs in the Main Street fixtures. They were also trying out their new hydraulic lift which will raise two men in a bucket up to where they can work on the light lines.

The Meeker Herald — 20 years ago
• LynMar Tool Company president Glenn Griffen finalized the details that will bring his 12-year-old company to Meeker. The company specializes in manufacturing drill bits for the aerospace industry.
• Santa Claus made his first official visit to Meeker at the Christmas Bazaar, and heard requests from 2-1/2 year old Cynda Norell and 5-year-old Krista Norell, daughters of Vicky and Dee Norell.
• Della “D.C.” Collins was recognized for her outstanding contribution to the girls athletic programs at Barone Junior High School.
• Personnel from the Blanco Ranger District and the White River National Forest Service headquarters spent the first two days of this week moving into the new Forest Service office east of town.

The Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• Discovery of the first major gilsonite deposit ever found in Colorado has been found at Rabbit Mountain near Rangely.
• Big question is who will fill the shoes of departed all-conference players Tom Rabourn, Noel Crown and Richard Brenton and team captain Alan Yeager on this year’s Panther basketball team. Gary Gurr is the lone returnee from last year’s team.
• Brenda Workman celebrated her eighth birthday with a party at her home. Those attending were Janis Reams, Cheryl Tipton, Michelle Stewart, Judy Daggett, Barbara Ralph, Kathy Kantzen, Kay Cowan, Marland Johnson, and Paul Pilcher.
• Max Allred, seriously injured recently when a pipe hit in on the head, is much better, say his parents.

The Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• Randy Gradishar, former all pro linebacker for the Denver Broncos, visited Rangely’s youth. Gradishar was invited by the Communities for a Drug Free Society group. Chevron flew him in for the day, to speak with high school and middle school students.
• Juan Chumacero and Lilydee Nickson are the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, Whitney Kaye Chumacero, born Dec. 4, 1989, at 1:45 a.m.
