The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
• The weekly paper is pre-eminently the molder of public opinion. While the big dailies are merely scanned for the news the weeklies are carefully studied by every member of the household, and for this reason many country school boys know more about the questions of the day than the average man.
• Jap Wyman brought one of his hands in from the ranch Monday, the man suffering from a rattlesnake bite. It is a bit early for the rattlers to be moving.
• A Rock Springs, Wyo., dispatch reports the murder of John Jarvie, the pioneer Green River ferryman of Browns Park. It is supposed Jarvie, who lived in the park for over 30 years, was put out of the way by rustlers.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bowden announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Rosemary Lee Bowden, to Mr. Donny Lee Hilkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hilkey of Meeker.
• Meeker Clubs Craig Three Our of Four in OTA Games Here Sunday
• The Country Parson: “It’s lots easier to create a bad impression than it is to destroy it.”

The Meeker Herald — 25 years ago
• Within the next few days it is anticipated that television viewers in the Meeker area will have a new, improved channel to watch. Channel 2 from Denver is being added to the local cable television system and will come in on channel 10. For those who aren’t hooked up to cable, the new Channel 2 can be found on UHF Channel 46.
• C-b lays off 25 percent of workforce; effects downplayed.
• Jim and Laurie Brooks are the parents of a daughter, Katelynn Lee, born July 5 in Glenwood Springs.
• Joshua Force Kiser, son of Pete and Elizabeth Kiser, celebrated his first birthday July 11, 1984. Katie Linn Pettijohn, daughter of Linn and Debbie Pettijohn, celebrated her first birthday July 16, 1984.

The Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• Enlisting in the service were Kenneth Higgins and Gerald Reeves.
• McCoy Chevrolet agreed to lend a dual-control driver training car to Rangely High School for the 1959-60 school year. Dual control cars are assigned only where the school has a driver education instructor who is fully certified by the state.
• “Whatever happened to that wonderful type of woman who couldn’t stand a man underfoot when she was doing the housework?”

The Rangely Times — 35 years ago
• The chief of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency toured the Rangely oil field.
• Someday the story of Vietnam may be viewed in a different light. History could well determine that it has not been in vain.
• Russell Ducey, Janna Wilczek, Lori Hazelwood and Fred Thompson went to Camp Christian above New Castle.
• Mrs. Davis told the town council she would sue to regain the Hildenbrandt Park property.

The Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• Adam Pennell and Shanna Hayden were the Rangely Library’s “Spotlite Students.”
• Eighteen people had applied for the position of county development director, with a salary range of $23,000-$27,000.
• The New Paraho Corporation constructed the first Colorado road test trip using an oil shale derived asphalt.
