The Meeker Herald — 125 years ago
• Yesterday was the coldest day of the season – 12-below zero.
• Meeker is to have another barber shop. Mr. Williams, a newcomer, will open a shop shortly.
• Work was commenced on J.W. Welch’s building on Monday and if weather permits will will speedily have another business house in operations.
• J.W. Schutte brought a large bill of lumber of McHatton and Sheridan for improvements on his Piceance Ranch.

• Meeker TV reception much improved since work on booster.
• Prizewinners in the $50 and under Christmas lighting contest: E.L. Joines home at 5th and Garfield, Stanley Harp home at 868 Garfield, Esther Minica at 565 Park and Elize Joslin one mile west of Meeker on Hwy. 13. Winners in the $50-$100 contest the first place award went to Melvin West whose home is located five miles west of Meeker on Hwy. 64. Second place went to Marshall Sam Cron at 1st and Park, and honorable mention went to Ben and Dorothy Herring at 843 North 8th St.
• Glen Miller took over the lease on the Meeker Conoco Service station on the corner of 8th and Market.

• The terrible tragedy that claimed the lives of 12 Rocky Mountain Gas Company employees in Glenwood Springs was felt in Meeker with the loss of 24-year-old Cindy (Jordan) Cowling.
• Dear Santa: Please bring me a Dreamtime Barbie with her own teddy bear. Love, Kathy Jo Kilduff.
• Dear Santa: My name is Todd King and I am 2-years-old. I’ve been a good boy and I help my mom and dad. I would like a Clip-Clop Wonder Horse and a truck. I would also like you to bring a toy for T.C. He’s been real good too.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• A construction contract was signed Tuesday for the Rangely branch of Mesa College.
• Santa Claus will be in Rangely Saturday afternoon and all of his small friends are invited to be downtown before the free movie to see him.
• The kids in town are wondering when the town fathers are going to fill the skating pond on Main Street.
• Shorty Brown drew the winning ticket for the ESA Theta Zeta Holiday Basket. The raffle was won by E.E. Davidson.

Rangely Times — 30 years ago
• An explosion which destroyed a trailer house belonging to the Andrew Allred family was an apparent result of gas from the Chevron well site traveling through a fracture in the Mancos formation to an old Mancos well approximately 50 ft. from the trailer.
• A gingerbread and candy model of the Centrilift Hughes, Inc. building was created by Diane and Ross Waggoner and used as a centerpiece for the gala holiday dinner and Christmas part for employees of the area.

Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• Jason Harris placed first for the Panthers in the heavyweight (275 lb.) division at the two-day Warrior Classic in Grand Junction.
• About 30 youth from area churches and Young Life teamed up on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in an effort to embrace the community with a door-to-door food drive.
