The Meeker Herald — 125 years ago
• No better evidence of the growth and needs of Meeker could be shown than the opening of Tom Watson’s general merchandise establishment to accommodate the increasing population along the White River.
• Forty-seven inches of snow has fallen at Meeker since Nov. 5.
• The Axial nimrods rounded up about 300 elk last week and got away with 19.
• The Coal Creek school will close in about three weeks. Average attendance has been eight with Miss White as teacher.
• Tom Little should close up his saloon and go freighting. He made the trip between here and Rawlins in 11-1/2 days, the best winter time on record.

• Dr. Scott has booked the “Swan Lake Ballet” for Feb. 16 at the Rio Theatre. The ballet has been filmed in the four full acts just as it appeared on the theatre stage in New York.
• Snow cover in the White River drainage is 55 percent of normal, the poorest in many years.
• The Fortnightly Club entertained their husbands at a dinner party last Saturday night.
• At Watt’s Ranch Market: Crackers, 2lb. Box, 49 cents. Tide giant-size, 72 cents.

• Rio Blanco County Commissioners aren’t sure whether they want to spend $240,000 to fix the heating and air conditioning system in the 51-year-old courthouse building.
• Bill Jordan to head Rio Blanco County Stockgrowers, replacing Jerry Oldland.
• Spec Clapper threw quite the surprise party for Josie at Sleepy Cat Sunday.
• Members of the MHS varsity wrestling team: Scott Thringer, Matt Hughes, Bill Bolger, KC Burke, Coley Turner, Todd Morris, Todd Gerloff, Justin Seely, Chris Lines, Ladd Klinglesmith, Jason Steiner, Lenny Klinglesmith.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
• Dear Editor: “Any qualified elector has the right to run for a public office. Why should a special few hide under the guise of a Taxpayers’ group for the harassment of elected public officials?”
• Work started last week on the additional 108 street lights to be put in service on Rangely streets, plus replacing the 52 original lights.
• Rangely welcomes as the new minister of the Church of Christ, James D. Skaggs, formerly of Bowling Green, Ken.

Rangely Times — 35 years ago
• Rangely High School will enter three boys in the state championship wrestling tournament: Ray Powell, Rod Cook and Jody Lee.
• According to Dr. John A. Odom at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, tubing is the most dangerous winter sport, resulting in ruptured livers and spleens, punctured lungs, and rib, pelvic and vertebral fractures.
• At Bestway: Kraft 2 lb. Velveeta cheese loaf, $1.87. Western Family flour, 25 lbs., $2.89.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago
• Weather from Feb. 5-11, 1986. High temperature, 37F; low temperature, 3F.
• Lori Smith and Scott McInnis exchanged wedding vows Dec. 26, 1985 at the Sleepy Cat Guest Lodge. Reverend Elmo Cook performed the ceremony.
• RHS students Kay Patterson, Lisa O’Neal, Bryan Sisneros and Joy Edelen attended the state speech festival.
