RIO BLANCO COUNTY DAYS GONE BY

The Meeker Herald — 125 years ago

n The south Mesa and Little Beaver districts will benefit from a new rural mail route to be established.

n The Boner stallion, Black King, is for sale. Address L.N. Boner, Meeker, Colo.

n Gray, or lobo wolves are reported to be numerous in the country a short distance west of town.

n Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Kilduff, from down the river, were in town last Friday.

n The Meeker Fire Department was called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spence Tuesday morning when their youngest daughter fell into an abandoned sewer. On arrival the fire department could not get the 2-year-old to grab a rope lowered to her as she was too frightened. Her brother, who was at school at the time, was summoned and he succeeded in getting her out of the hole with the help of the firemen on the scene.

n After a long quiet spell, the Meeker Police Department had a hectic week. A pedestrian/vehicle accident sent a Meeker woman to the hospital. And one of several empty kegs of beer stolen from the Lions Club over the Fourth of July was recovered and one adult and two juveniles have been charged.

n The first two football games of the year saw running back Mike Parr go over the 100-yard mark, but last Friday it was Justin Seely who racked up 112 yards on 15 carries.

n The Rangely High School cross-country track team, participating in its first meet in the history of the school, defeated Meeker 24-12.

n From Cheryl Striegel’s Panther Purrs … column: “The seniors chose ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ as the parade theme for homecoming this year.”

n Mr. and Mrs. Kennith Dotson are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Georgann Dotson, to David Prosser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Prosser.

n Rangely High School’s FBLA organization held its first meeting. The club elected its officers for the year as follows: Sylvia Wright, president; Vanessa Ormsbee, vice president; Phoebe Day, secretary; Jeremy Lancaster, treasurer; Cindy White, historian/reporter; Melody Barnhart, parliamentarian.
