The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
• Report has come to us that wolves are unusually numerous and troublesome this season. Already they are running in large packs. This is the condition and the menace: These wolves are going to eat while they live, and the supply of jackass rabbits is likely to run short. That means somebody’s stock — and plenty of it — will then supply the feast.
• Instead of Rifle coming over here Saturday for the football game, Craig will send an eleven. From what we can learn, it is a husky bunch, aggregating about a ton of beef.
• A 228-pound bell was installed at the public school house (1886).
• Rube Ball of the Meeker hotel reported that he has about 300 tons of the finest ice ever put up in Meeker.
• Rev. Father Walsh will hold mass at the courthouse hall tomorrow morning.
• Numerous bad colds are now the fashionable malady.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• The Meeker Fire Department was called to the John Purkey home on west Park Street Sunday afternoon. The fire had gained considerable headway before it was discovered and the whole upstairs was a mass of fire by the time the department arrived.
• After a very mild November the weather took a decided change last week. The coldest spot in the state was Taylor Park Dam in Gunnison Country with a reported 48 below zero.
• Last Saturday Meeker High School sent two debate teams to Delta to compete in a debate meet. The two teams were Lorna Idol and Gene Starbuck, Harry Tucker and Bob Ruckman.
• Postmaster Ray Woolley received official communication that the post office at Buford will be closed on Friday of this week. After that there will no longer be a post office at Buford and all up river mail will be addressed to Meeker Post Office.
• The Christmas lighting in the business district of Meeker was all completed last week and we have never seen the street decorations more beautiful.

• Dear Santa: I want a tricycle and trucks and big guns, a GI Joe and a kiss from my girlfriend Ashley. Thank you . I love you, Danny Moody, age 3.
• Despite missing several members who were ill,the younger participants in the rec district’s gymnastic program performed during the recent basketball games and wrestling tournament. Shay Miller, Wendy Cook, Molly Turner, Sonja Massey, Jennifer Cook, Hallie Turner, Dawn Cook and Catrina Theos participated.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
• The biggest event of the year for Rangely youngsters will take place Saturday, a free movie, courtesy of 40 of Rangely businessmen, and a visit from Santa Claus will highlight the afternoon.
• Rangely’s ice skating pond was filled Sunday night by members of the Volunteer Fire Department. The pond is located in the Hildenbrandt Park north of Main Street.
• Rangely’s Pete Miller was named Sunday to the Denver Post’s 1966 all-state prep football team.

• As we look ahead to a new presidency and a new Congress, all of us should think about the goals we want them to pursue over the next few months. The political balance has changed drastically. The real issue of the latter half of the 20th century remains unchanged ñ how much at what price are we willing to do for how many?
• Last Saturday Santa Claus dropped in at the Charles Elliot residence in Blue Mountain to collect the orders of their daughter Marjorie; her cousins Fred, Leona and Lori Hazlewood; Paul, Mark, Madonna and Jana Wilczek and her friends Chris, Darren and Lonnie Baker.
• Karin Blevins and Daniel Beddes were named “students of the month” for November at Rangely Middle School.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago
• Joan Slauther, Cheryl Ivey and Karen Bartoe hosted a bridal shower for Georgann Dotson.
• On Dec. 3, Shirley Kay Nickson successfully completed the North American School of Animal Science and received her diploma.
