Commissioner Tom Kilduff entertained a large party at dinner on the Fourth. In the party was Mrs. Fred Schultz (Mr. Kilduff’s sister) and Mrs. H. Boarman (a niece) from Buffalo, N.Y., J.E. and Mrs. Kilduff, T.E. and J.K. Kilduff and Joe Kracht. The Mesdames Schultz and Boarman will spend the remainder of the summer on White River.
Picking starts July 5 and continues five weeks. With big crops, active workers can earn three to five dollars daily. Rooms and board is reasonable in town. Fine water, plenty of fuel and excellent camping grounds near strawberry fields. Steamboat Springs Strawberry Assn., Steamboat Springs, Colo.
A large number of settlers of Big and Little Beaver, Miller Creek, the north and south branches of the White River, assembled at Idlewild Lodge on south branch, observed the Fourth in proper manner. A fine picnic dinner was served and various sports enlivened the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Orville Romersberger announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Kay Carol, to Larry Lynn Bowen, son of Mr. Edward Bowen of Stronghurst, Ill.
The Empire Seismograph company has moved a drilling rig to Meeker and will be doing some seismograph work in the area in the coming few weeks.
The Anderson-Independent Lumber Co. float titled “Down By the Old Mill Stream” captured the grand prize and was certainly a beautiful float.
Colorado’s General Fund ended the fiscal year of 1962-63 in the black, but unless another “golden gimmick” is developed it will put a permanent hole into the $10 million revolving fund by the end of next year. (“Golden gimmick” is a term made popular during Steve McNichols’ first term when he postponed tax increases by putting all personal and corporate income taxes on an estimated withholding basis. He called it financial management.)
In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, the Colorado Department of Highways awarded 120 construction projects that cover 546 miles of road building and, with preliminary engineering and right-of-way acquisition, represented an investment in better roads of $65,856,000, Chef Engineer Mark U. Watrous announced.

By a unanimous 4-0 vote, the Rangely Town Council decided Tuesday night to terminate the town’s dispatching service to the Rangely Rural Fire Protection District because of a problem with fire district Chief Dave Chaney.
A very lovely outdoor wedding uniting Michelle Anne Wilcox and John Hilton Wix was performed along the White River at Sleepy Cat Guest Ranch. The nuptial vows were exchanged at 2 p.m. on May 22, with Rev. Elmo Cook performing the double-ring ceremony. Richard Langfeld, pianist, provided the musical selection.
Howard and Peggy Kilduff are now residing in their home at 1009 Wall St., which they purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brumback.
Stephanie Walton, 17 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Walton of Meeker, has recently been accepted to the two-year International Baccalaureate program at the Armand Hammer United World College of the American West in Montezuma, N.M.
Moving to Meeker on Sunday were Mike and Lisa Cook and seven month-old Zach of Tucson, Ariz. Mike assumed his duties as pressman at The Herald on Monday.

A report was made in Craig recently by the Colorado Water Board on its findings on the Juniper Springs Project, which extends westward from Craig for over 120 miles. Complete with pictures and maps, the report described the area traversed, character of soil and topography, along with information on climate and economy of the area.
The Garden Plaque awarded by Rangely Garden Club for the outstanding yard of the week was placed at the Warren Thomas home. It will remain there for two weeks, and then another yard will be chosen by the judges.
The 1963 golf league play of the Slush Pie Club was won by the Gas Plant for the second straight year. Those on the winning league team were F. Beard, T. Allison, H. Hutchen, C. Blanchard, J. Blakely and H. Smith
Socony-Mobile has reportedly purchased 9,000 acres of land located directly behind the Rifle Experimental Oil Shale Plant and Navel Reserve Shale lands, according to a story in last week’s Rifle Telegram.

For those people interested in canning and freezing their own fruits and vegetables, Extension agents Laurel Covington and Beverly Prater will demonstrate the basic principles of this type of food preservation.
Representatives of the Meeker Flying Service are scheduled to re-spray early July 14. Again, residents are reminded to provide protection covers for their automobiles and other property that might be damaged by the oil film used in spraying.
Rangely residents are painfully aware of the water shortage following July 10, when most of the town was out of water. At the present rate of consumption, it is reported that the town will be out of water every day. City Manager Glen Huntington said today that if everyone uses water wisely, there will be a sufficient supply.

Sherry McMullen and Clifford Roberson Jr. were united in marriage May 28, 1983, in a garden ceremony at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McMullen of Palisade, formerly of Rangely.
Miss Debra Jean Bacon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Bacon of Casper, Wyo., was married June 18, 1983, to Rodger L. Silva, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Silva of Casper, Wyo.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron King announce the arrival of Amanda Joy on June 8, 1983, at Meeker.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown are proud to announce the birth of their son, Alton Cole Brown, known as Howdy, June 22, 1983.
Construction of the plant and mine is ahead of schedule and below cost. The plant is due to operate in late ’84 early ’85 and although there will be excess power for three years, it will help to stabilize the power supply.
Carver Construction Co. of Grand Junction, a member of Associated General Contractors of Colorado Building Chapter, has won a $199,000 contract to build an addition to the pilot training facility at Colorado Northwest Community College in Rangely.
