Rio Blanco County Fair: what will you bring?

Spring has sprung and summer is on its way in Rio Blanco County! Local 4-H members are diligently working on various projects from scrap booking to steer projects, eagerly awaiting the first week of August for the County Fair. While 4-H’ers are busy with projects — what have you been working on?
With the latest trend of finding great craft ideas on social media sites such as Pinterest there has been an upswing of traditional crafting and new spins on old fashioned ideas occurring in many households. Many of you may already be avid “Pinners” or know of a “Pinterestaholic” — Well, the Rio Blanco County Fair needs you! Keep a list of all the crafts and projects you have made over the year (and projects yet to come) and when fair week arrives bring all your items to the County Fair.
The Rio Blanco County Fair is the perfect place to showcase all your completed “pins” and give others a chance to see them in person and be inspired by your work. With over 200 Open classes offered there is a place for everything you have made or grown from your home. From traditional to digitally enhanced photography, farm fresh eggs to grass displays, vegetables to flower arrangements, quilts to dish scrubbies, oil paintings to pencil sketches, jams to jellies, cookies and pies, birdhouses to your family’s scrapbook — there is a class for it all at the fair. Age divisions are open to the wee youngest to the wisest folks of the family so there is a place for everyone to enter their work at the fair.
The Rio Blanco County Fair offers a unique take on the silent auction tradition. Any item entered into the Indoor Open Fair classes may also be entered into the silent auction and sold to the highest bidder with 100 percent of the profits going to the exhibitor. This is great way to promote your talents as an artist and an awesome opportunity for the public to take home a part of the fair.
The Rio Blanco County Fair has so much to offer for the whole family. Save the week of July 30 – Aug. 4 for the 2012 Rio Blanco County Fair, “Come Rock With the Stock!”
Events this year include: the Horse Show, Classic Car Show, Lil’ Buckaroo Rodeo, Sheep Lead, of course all the 4-H/ FFA and Open Livestock Shows, and new this year, the first annual “Rio Blanco County’s Got Talent” contest open to the public! Watch the paper for more about the fair in the coming weeks.
For more information on events and contests please stop by or call the Extension Offices in Meeker at 878-9490 or in Rangely at 878-9495.
