n For the past few weeks, since the old timers’ dance and reunion was determined, it was a foregone conclusion that a great big time would be the result. In January 1912 the matter of having an old-timers’ reunion was suggested by “one of them,” and soon thereafter it was decided to have such a blow-out on the ninth day of February following.

n Rangely, the oil capital of Colorado, has really been in the news this past week, when the White River formed huge ice gorges and sent flood water to all the low sections of the town.
n Marine Private Myron D. and Marine Pfc. Kenneth V. Dull are scheduled to complete combat training.
n Four Meeker High School band members were chosen for the all-Colorado School Band: Henry Murray, Dorothy Stout, Barbara Kennedy and Heather Jensen.

n Bill Turner’s Meeker Cowboys are on a collision course with last year’s state wrestling champs, Fort Lupton’s Bluedevils. The Cowboys have four top-quality wrestlers who have attracted a whole lot of attention: Lenny Klinglesmith, Justin Seely, Matt Jensen and Coley Turner.
n Meeker sixth-grader Julia Vandiver recently won top honors in the Daughters of the American Revolution American History Essay Contest.
n Charlie and Gail Frantz announced the arrival of Jacob Levi Frantz, born Feb. 12.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
n Burglars were no doubt disappointed after their efforts to rob Strain Drug Sunday morning.
n Temperatures: Feb. 10, high 26F, low -4F.
n Notice: A veterinarian will be at town hall to vaccinate dogs. Licenses will go on sale that day. Every dog, 6 months or older, must wear a tag to avoid impounding according to the town ordinance.

Rangely Times — 35 years ago
n Contracts were signed by the Town of Rangely for the new $1.7 million water treatment plant. Construction will start Feb. 21, to be paid for with oil shale trust fund monies and funds from the Economic Development Administration. The plant will serve the needs of a town of 5,000.
n At the Campus Theatre: Lee Marvin and Roger Moore in “Shout at the Devil.”
n Deborah A. Workman of Rangely High School has been named 1977 General Mills Family Leader of Tomorrow.
n At Bestway: Blue Bonnet margarine, 45 cents. Kraft Miracle Whip, 99 cents per quart.

n The Rangely Board of Trustees, in a split vote, recommended to the county approval of the application of Jeff Peacock for a liquid waste disposal facility one mile northeast of town.
n Three RHS wrestlers are competing in the state Class A tournament this weekend: Todd Carlson, Brett Powell and Mark Wilczek.
n Bobby and Lonnie LeBleu announce the birth of their new son, Travis Don LeBleu, born Feb. 6, 1987 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.
n Rangely Middle School January students of the month: Derria Banta and Leonard Lane.
