The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
— A number of the up-river dry farmers met in town and took initial steps to the organization of a flour mill company. It seems to be the opinion of those having the matter in hand that present milling facilities are not adequate to the rapidly expanding wheat acreage of the White River Valley and that as long as we are without railroad facilities it would be more profitable to ship out flour than wheat.
— One good thing about the football fever — it doesn’t last long.
— Dr. Fox has moved his dental offices into a splendid suite of rooms in the new Hugus block.
— Thanks to the vigilance of Marshal Nichols and a number of deputies, very little property was destroyed in Meeker Halloween night.
— Dr. Montgomery has moved into his new offices in the Hugus block.
— The threatened snowstorm is a’coming. As far as we are concerned, it can stay away till New Year’s Day.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
— The accused slayer of 75-year-old sheepherder Glen Brady surrendered to the Mesa County Sheriff Monday and was returned to Meeker.
— The Old West came to life for hunters in the Baxter Pass area last week when a bull buffalo of a type thought to be extinct for many years was spotted by several persons. According to Dudley Jerome, wildlife conservation officer, this could be the same buffalo observed in western Moffat County in September by William Goosman, another officer. The nearest buffalo herd to Grand Junction is at the Colorado National Monument. Workers there are reasonably certain that none of their animals are missing.
— Mr. and Mrs. Byron Ottosen announce the engagement of their daughter, Jo Ann, to Frederick C. Findlay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. R. Findlay. A December wedding is planned.
— The Cowboys shut out the Steamboat Sailors in the grid finale yesterday 31-0.

The Meeker Herald — 25 years ago
— Following the trend of other local government entities, the Re-1 school district is anticipating about a $60,000 decrease in its general fund for 1987.
— Cowboys to play Sun Devils in quarterfinal matchup for state football.
— Teresa Gilbert’s 5 by 6 buck was the envy of every man as she knocked this 29-1/2 inch beauty down in the Hay Flats area. Gilbert said she was surprised that there are still a few bucks with good racks left and was just happy to have one of them.
— MHS football players Todd Gerloff, Chad Deines, Mike Parr, Justin Seely and Chris Lines were named to the all-conference team.
— FNBR held their annual pumpkin contest. Winners included Chris Dunham and Matthew Dupire (kindergarten), Randy Rust, Molly Bivens, Amy Thayer and Matt Osse in the first through third-grade competition, and Jason Dunham won the open competition.

Rangely Times — 45 years ago
— Construction on Rangely College’s newest dormitory is progressing satisfactorily, with completion planned during the school year.
— The Rangely Garden Club held its regular meeting at the Snak Bar with a luncheon in which 27 members and guests were present.
— Seniors Gary Chism and Jim Allred were co-captains of the Panther squad for the Delta-Rangely game last Wednesday.

— Now showing at the Campus Theatre: “The Gumball Rally,” “Lifeguard,” and “Shadow of the Hawk.”
— The Rangely Panthers rolled over the Aspen Skiers by a score of 32-0 last Friday night in Aspen.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago
— New CO2 project doubles life of Rangely oil field.
— For the first time in county history, a woman county commissioner, Mrs. Peggy Rector (D) was elected. Rector received 1,335 votes for the win over incumbent Edward Coryell (R) who polled 946 votes.
— Rangely Middle School custodians participated in the fun Halloween day as the “Three Dust Busters.”
— Winning the third-grade spelling bee: Kelli Foxley, Tayah Worrall and Jackie Hope.
