RANGELY I They may not have the big numbers, but they can still turn in a big performance.
Rangely Junior High’s wrestlers placed third out of 15 in the team scoring at a tournament Saturday at Soroco.
“We did extremely well. Again, we were one of the smallest teams and we took home a trophy,” coach Derek Stolworthy said. “It was very exciting to have that small of a team and still win a trophy. It made everybody proud — the wrestlers, the coaches, the parents.”
Rangely took nine wrestlers to the tournament.
“I was really proud of all of the wrestlers,” Stolworthy said.
First-place finishers for the Panthers were: Ethan Allred at 115, Lucas Heinle at 125 and Heath Peters at 180.
Ketsen Rouse was second at 70 pounds, as was Ryan Wilczek at 155. Trevor Brown finished fourth at 145 pounds.
Also last week, Rangely hosted a dual meet against Meeker on March 11. The Panthers lost in the team scoring 43-23.
“We wrestled well against Meeker in the head-to-head matches,” Stolworthy said.
Next up for the Panthers was a four-team dual meet Tuesday at Hayden, and they will participate in a tournament at Meeker on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
