RANGELY — This past
Saturday the Rangely Middle
School track team traveled to
Meeker for its second meet of
the season.
The weather was a little
warmer than last week in
Craig, but the headwind blowing
down the home straightaway
made running tough in
the distance races and sprints
alike.
Rangely got off to a good
start in the first running event
of the day with Haeley
Enterline placing fourth (20.16)
and Ethan Peacock placing first
(16.52) in the 100-meter hurdles.
Colton Coombs started his
track season with an exceptional
run in the 100 hurdles as
well, placing second (18.39) for
the seventh-grade boys.
For the seventh-grade girls
Myriah Moreno and Heather
Turner came away with third
and fourth places, respectively,
in the 200-meter dash.
In the seventh-grade boys
100-meter dash, Coombs’ time
of 14.14 seconds and Chas
Byerly’s time of 14.74 seconds
were good enough to finish 2-3
for Panthers.
In the distance races,
William Scoggins had an excellent
first meet placing in both
the 400-meter dash and the 800-
meter run.
Ethan Peacock set a personal
record time of 5:34 in a first
place effort in the 1600-meter
run, and Kody Denny followed
that up with a first place finish
of his own in the 800 run with a
time of 2:30.
The Panthers also found
some success in the field and
throwing events with Ethan
Peacock taking second in both
long and triple jump and Jake
Smith taking fifth in the long
jump as well as placing in the
shot put.
Overall this young Panther
team is showing improvement
each week and hope to keep it
going with the Panther
Invitational coming up this
Saturday at the RHS track.
