MEEKER | Twenty-seven participants took part in the Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge competition hosted by ERBM Recreation and Park District on Thursday, May 31 at Paintbrush Park in Meeker.
The following five youngsters earned first place honors in their respective age groups:
- Gael Rodriguez in the boys 6/7 age division
- Gavin Allen in the boys 8/9 age division
- Sam Conrado in the boys 10/11 age division
- Sydnie Ross in the girls 10/11 age division
- Clay Randall in the boys 12/13 age division
These five winners now move on to the section competition to be held at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction on July 15 at 6 p.m. They could qualify for the state championship on Aug. 11 to be held at Coca-Cola All Star Park in Lakewood, Colo. All state finalists will then be invited to attend the Colorado Rockies vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers game that evening at Coors Field.
The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge program allows youngsters to showcase their talents in base running, batting, and throwing with scores based on speed, distance and accuracy. The Rockies Baseball Skills Challenge is a youth program of the Colorado Park and Recreation Association with the support of the Colorado Rockies baseball club.
