MEEKER I Sometimes running can be painful, and last Saturday in Craig two runners on Meeker’s cross country team experienced more pain than usual.
One was able to finish, the other wasn’t.
Cowboy sophomore Ean Barrow pushed through the pain of shin splints to finish the 3.1-mile course in Moffat County, while freshman Savannah Johnson ran two-thirds of the race before experiencing too much pain, and did not finish.
“Ean has shin splints and they kicked into high gear during his race,” head coach Kris Casey said. “He showed a lot of guts by finishing in a lot of pain. We were extremely proud of his determination to finish the race.”
“Savannah was having a nice race until about the two-mile mark, where she stopped shortly after with stomach pain. She has been sick recently,” Casey said.
Rangely freshman William Scoggins continues to be the fastest on the Cowboy team, finishing the race in 26th place with a time of 20:29. and Lathrop Huges finished five places behind Scoggins with a time of 21:36. Freshman Alex Smith also finished the race in 24:13.
Senior Erica Roybal continues to lead the Meeker girls. Roybal placed 13th in the girls’ division, with a time of 24:28 and freshman Perye Walter ran the course in 34:52.
Meeker will run in Fruita on Saturday.
