The face of the soldier on the Rio Blanco County Veterans Memorial is chiseled in bronze and stands as a masterpiece of art sculpted by Meeker artist John Kobald. The statue of “Sacrifice and Resolution” was unveiled following the Meeker parade on July 4, the product of much work by area volunteers and coordination and fundraising by the Meeker and Rangely VFW chapters. Another copy of the statue will be unveiled at a later date in Rangely, so both towns can honor all county veterans past, present and future in times of war and peace.
Members of the VFW Color Guard stand at attention just prior to the unveiling of the statue, visible in the background.
