MEEKER I “You don’t have to walk for four hours in the hot July sun,” Debbie Cook, organizer of the Save Our Track Walk-a-thon, said.
Cook, a longtime Meeker teacher and coach, is hoping to encourage people to come to the Meeker High School track on Saturday to raise funds to restore the community’s track, which has been in disrepair for several years. Many walkers have gathered pledges to start walking at 7 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Cook has contacted many former and current track athletes and invited them to the track to visit, share stories and bring their checkbooks.
The WRBM Recreation and Parks District will host a Color Run 5K in Rangely, also on Saturday, with all proceeds benefiting the New Eden Pregnancy Center, where the race will start.
The ERBM Recreation and Parks District will host the annual Run for Your Life 5K on Friday. Registration starts at 5:30 a.m. and the race starts at 7:30 a.m.
