MEEKER | Right at 60 runners braved wet weather Sept. 24 to participate in the 11th annual Scrub Shirt 5K sponsored by Pioneers Medical Center. Armed with umbrellas and jackets, they took to the streets for either a 1 Mile Fun Run or a challenging 5K. More than $800 was raised through entries and donations to go toward the purchase of a 3D mammography machine! Pioneers Medical Center thanks all of the participants and volunteers for another great race. The Scrub Shirt 5k is a kick-off to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pioneers Medical Center wants to remind everyone the importance of annual exams and screening procedures. One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer. However, 96 percent of women who find and treat breast cancer early will be cancer free after 5 years. Early detection is the best protection. Check. Screen. Prevent.
