The Scrub Shirt Classic — sponsored by Pioneers Medical Center — will be a benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
“In the past, this has been an event just encouraging fitness and exercise in people’s lives. This year the Scrub Shirt Classic is a fundraiser. It’s being done in memory and in honor of Clem and Mary Clark, who had cystic fibrosis,” said Margie Joy, spokeswoman for PMC.
Clem Clark, 25, died in May. His sister, Mary, died in in 2008. She was 21.
“The employees here at the hospital, this is something they wanted to do,” Joy said. “Both of the kids just touched our hearts.”
Roger and Janet Clark, Clem and Mary’s parents, will be on hand for Saturday’s event.
“They have been involved from the very beginning,” Joy said. “They have been very excited (about the event).”
Registration for adults is $12 and children 11 and under is $9.
“If people want to make a donation on top of that amount, we’ll collect all of that and send a payment to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,” Joy said.
Pre-registration locations for the Scrub Shirt Classic are available around town as well as donation jars to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Runners/walkers can also register the day of the event. There will be prizes for first-, second- and third-place.
This is the fifth year the Scrub Shirt Classic will be part of Mountain Valley Bank’s annual Fall Festival.
“It just kind of made sense,” Joy said of the partnership. “It seemed like a good combination. It’s a good kickoff event to the Fall Festival. It just makes sense. It’s a great community day.”
And it benefits a good cause.
