RANGELY I On Nov. 5, the Colorado Northwestern Community College Horse Show Team traveled to Billings, Mont., to compete Saturday and Sunday in an IHSA Horse Show hosted by Rocky Mountain College, showing well and placing several members within the top 10.
There were five other teams in the region that CNCC competed against: Utah State University, Rocky Mountain College, Montana State University, University of Montana and University of Montana Western.
There are six levels of Western IHSA Showing. CNCC does not currently have a “full” team, which fills all the levels for team points, but still held their own in the region and team members all did well individually.
The weekend consisted of three separate horse shows: Saturday morning CNCC tied for third; Saturday afternoon the team tied for fifth; and Sunday the team finished fourth.
Five students made the trip, and veterans Amber Parmley and Tasha Gibson proved to be great assets to the team competitively and great role models for freshman participants. Freshman Catalina Laguera and Kelsey Priestley showed they were ready to step up to the challenge of being on the team and Kathryn Costales was our team assistant for the weekend.
Following are individual placements for each student/show: Amber Parmley (intermediate horsemanship) second, fourth and first; Tasha Gibson (open horsemanship) fourth, third and fourth and (open reining) third, fourth and second; Kelsey Priestley (intermediate horsemanship) sixth, fourth and second; and Catalina Laguera (beginner horsemanship) third, sixth and fifth.
The team’s next show is scheduled for Nov. 22-23 at Utah State University in Logan.
