Kenney Reservoir, eight miles east of Rangely, was originally two miles in length. Over the years, siltation, caused by the settling of sediment on the bottom of the east end of the lake, has seen a buildup of sand-like silt, which serves as an anchor for the tall grasses in the lake.
It also takes up space that should be used for recreation and water storage. All the grass at the east end of the lake is one of the main reasons another reservoir between Meeker and Rangely is being looked at and could be a reality in the next decade.
