MEEKER I  The Smith siblings from Rifle made a clean sweep of the annual junior golf tournaments in Craig and Meeker this week.

 

All three won the Craig tournament Monday last and then the Meeker tournament the following day.Macy Smith won easily won the 7-9 year old girls division, Jason won the 10-12 year old division and his brother Kyler was the best golfer on the course, winning the 15-18 field with a five over par 73.“They swept them both,” local golf pro Jim Cook said of the Smith kids and the two junior golf tournaments.Many Meeker kids were in the field of 28 golfers, some playing three holes, others five, some nine, the oldest playing 18 and some just playing some golf.Connor Blunt beat his younger brother in the 6-and-under and Barbara Jex was the best in the “amateur, amateur,” group, Addie Joy was second in her class and Matilda Brown was third. Zach Eskelson won the 7-9 year old group, Dax Sheridan finished second, as did Megan Shelton in her division.Meeker’s Chase Rule and Nick Burri tied at 61 for second in the 10-12 year old group, with Tell Blanke and Jake Shelton behind them. Meeker’s Ty Shepherd finished third in the oldest age group.A grant from the ERBM Recreation and Park District purchased several sets of junior clubs, which are available, free of charge on the Meeker course and Cook encourages all young golfers to come out and play.
