RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers hosted their annual 11-team wrestling tournament last Saturday. Six Panthers finished in the top four and the team placed fifth.
Jake Smith was the lone Panther champion at 170 pounds and he was also voted co-upper weight outstanding wrestler of the tournament.
Placing second was Lucas Heinle at 138 and Patrick Brown at heavyweight. Placing third for the Panthers were Ethan Allred, Chance Peters and Colton Coombs.
Wrestling but not placing were Heath Peters and Michael Parker. Peters won a couple of matches but was one match away from placing.
Coach Stolworthy stated that he was satisfied with the team’s performance, but also said, “It’s time to start peaking as the state championships are just a month away.”
This week the team will wrestle Saturday in the Screamin’ Eagle tournament in Paonia.
