RANGELY I The Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartan women’s basketball team opened its season with a victory while the men’s team was not quite as fortunate.
The Lady Spartans have an entirely new coaching staff, headed by Brian Ortmeier from the University of Nebraska and assistant coach Kyle Entringer from South Dakota State University.
The men’s team is being led again by coach Adrian Hayes, who has a new assistant coach, David Siverly.
The Lady Spartans won their contest 64-61, topping Western Wyoming Community College of Rock Springs.
The Spartan men lost their matchup by a 73-51 margin against CWCC’s team.
“The crowd turnout was great, and hopes are that it will continue to be that way,” coach Hayes said.
Starting Dec. 11, the next four games will be home games for the Spartan teams.
“We really hope the kids can look forward to the continued support of the community to cheer us on,” Hayes said. “It really does help.”
