RANGELY — The Rangely High School Speech and Debate Team traveled to Denver to compete in the State Speech Festival.
The following team members were chosen to attend the state competition: Minnie Ann Nielsen, senior; David Roberts, senior; Hyrum Byers, junior; Emily Peterson, sophomore; and Rose Peterson, freshman.
The team did an awesome job against stiff competition. Twenty-one schools were in attendance.
Minnie Ann Nielsen and Emily Peterson competed in humorous duet receiving one excellent and two superiors.
David Roberts and Hyrum Byers also competed in humorous duet receiving three superiors.
Minnie Ann Nielsen competed in interpretation of humorous literature receiving two excellents and one superior.
Emily Peterson competed in interpretation of poetry receiving one excellent and two superiors.
Rose Peterson competed in value debate receiving one excellent and two superiors.
Peterson also competed in interpretation of humorous literature receiving one excellent and two superiors.
Hyrum Byers competed in original oratory and was awarded second place overall in the state competition.
