MEEKER | In his first season of racing, former Meeker High School student Brady Nay placed sixth at a national snowmobiling event in March in Lake Geneva, Wis. “I did all right,” said Nay, who is a senior at Grand Valley High School in Parachute. “I did pretty good in regional races. If you placed in the top three of your class, you qualified for the last national race. It’s called the Showdown at Sundown. Whoever comes across the finish line after so many laps is the winner.” Nay, who attended school in Meeker through his freshman year, said he was “usually in the top four” in races in Colorado and Wyoming and “had some firsts and seconds.” He competed in the 16-17 age group at nationals. “It’s been pretty fun, something different,” Nay said of snowmobile racing. “It’s kind of all about keeping your concentration and not wrecking, I guess.” Nay plans to attend WyoTech (Wyoming Technical Institute) in Laramie, Wyo., next year and study diesel mechanics. And he plans to continue racing snowmobiles. “Oh, totally,” he said.
