Student leadership makes a difference

RANGELY I This year the RJHS Student Council has done a lot in the junior high to keep things fun and exciting. Student council has participated in planning several fun activities within the junior high this year including sponsoring and decorating for the Halloween dance, planning spirit week, coordinating Red Ribbon Week activities and sponsoring a pop-top competition among the different grades.
Spirit week was a fun competition between the junior high grades. Every day had a different theme that students could dress up as. The week allowed students to show their school spirit by dressing up as the day’s theme, these included hippie day, twin day, ‘50s day and hat day. The most popular day was hat day. Each day teachers would count how many students participated and the class who had the most participation at the end of the week won an ice cream sandwich party. The seventh graders won, sixth grade came in at a close second.
The pop-top competition is in full swing. Students are collecting the tops off aluminum cans and bringing them in. All the grades are competing against each other to see what grade can collect the most pop-tops. At the end of the competition student council will take the pop-tops to The Ronald McDonald House and donate the pop-tops we have collected. The pop-tops will then be counted and The Ronald McDonald House will receive money for them. This money will go to families who have sick children in The Ronald McDonald House who cannot afford medical treatment. This fundraiser will help needy families with the cost of expensive medical bills.
This year Rangely Junior High School Student Council has been very active. RJHS Student Council plans to continue these types of activities and fundraisers all year. We hope that these activities and fundraisers help build up the school community while helping local and state organizations. Not only has this student organization found a way to strengthen the school community, they have made these activities fun and interesting for everyone in the building.
