It was a beautiful spring evening on Friday in Rangely as the American flag was carried past the bucking chutes at Columbine Park for the first of two performances of the inaugural Spartan Showdown Rodeo. The rodeo drew competitors from nine colleges for the first rodeo held in Rangely in several years.

CNCC sophomore guard Thomas Powers, this year’s second highest scorer in the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC), drives to the basket against Salt Lake Community College defenders. RANGELY I After more than a year of preparation and another year operating at half-strength, Colorado Northwestern Community College rodeo will field a complete team at this year’s National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) competitions.
