RBC I With the end of daylight saving time, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds Colorado motorists of the higher risk of being involved in a wildlife-related accident. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, November sees more car accidents involving wildlife than any other month.

Seat belt enforcement to toughen

RBC I Last year, 156 people in Colorado who lost their lives in crashes weren’t wearing a seat belt. Those lives account for more than half of the 308 passenger vehicle fatalities that occurred on Colorado roadways in 2014.

329 DUI arrests made during the holidays on Colorado highways

RBC I The new year brought new problems for 329 Colorado drivers arrested for impaired driving during New Year’s Eve DUI enforcement that ran between Dec. 30 and Jan. 5. In addition, preliminary reports from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) indicate that there were 153 impaired driving fatalities in 2014 and 466 fatalities overall.

Wanted felon arrested at Meeker apartment

MEEKER I On Monday the Meeker Police Department announced that on Jan. 21 Meeker police officer Gardner Mendenhall developed information that led to locating Matthew Finley, 28, who was wanted out of Mesa County on a nationwide no-bond warrant for charges related to dangerous drugs.

Slow speed zones fail to reduce wildlife collisions

It pays to be over-attentive when driving, as the driver of this Rangely truck learned recently. The vehicle sustained serious damage in a wildlife-related accident. The state has indicated that Highway 64 between Meeker and Rangely and state Highway 13 between Rifle and Craig are among the top five highways in the state for the number of accidents between vehicles and wildlife.
