Band in the Park…

The Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District held the second of its four Summer Entertainment Series events on Friday just off the Downtown Plaza at Fifth and Main streets. The country/bluegrass band, Halden Wofford and the Hi-Beams Band, delighted the small group of spectators.

Coed softball league crowns new champion

MEEKER I After two months of scheduled games and a double-elimination tournament, a new champion was crowned in the 2016 Coed Softball league, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District. Six teams started the 2016 Coed Softball season and three finished the tournament.

Meeker Marlins swim team competes well at High Country championship

Meeker I The Meeker Marlin swimmers, an ERBM Recreation and Park District program, competed at the High Country Swim League Championship Meet at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink in Eagle on July 29, and several of the swimmers did Meeker proud.

Free football clinic set Tuesday

Several middle school and high school football players have been gathering this summer at Barone Middle School’s practice field to throw the ball around and give younger kids an opportunity to play alongside older kids like incoming senior Sheridan Harvey, pictured throwing a pass.

MEEKER I Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation & Park District will host the Meeker High School Football Clinic on Tuesday at the Barone Middle School practice field.

Summer Entertainment Series…

For the third time in three years, Meeker music fans were treated to The Poser Band from the Front Range playing at the first of this year’s Friday night concerts on the lawn of the Rio Blanco County Courthouse. The music was appreciated as the band played a wide variety of music, but mostly country and country rock. A couple hundred people took in the free concert.

ERBM Community Appreciation Day…

As if getting showered by pastel paint powder during the course of the ERBM Recreation & Park District Paintbrush Rush Color Run on Saturday wasn’t enough color, the race participants threw powdered dye into the air for the color explosion finale.

21 Meeker youths take part in triathlon at Meeker Rec Center

Several area youth participated in the ERBM Recreation & Park District’s Road Rash ‘n’ Splash Kids’ Triathlon on Saturday. MEEKER I Twenty-one youth from Meeker and the surrounding areas competed in the ERBM Recreation & Park District’s Road Rash ‘n’ Splash Kids Triathlon on Saturday at the Meeker Recreation Center. Each of the individuals and teams competed in swimming, biking, and running.

Softball for the ages…

Jim Overton is arguably the oldest player in Meeker’s adult coed softball league, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District, but the “old veteran” still has some pitches in his bag as he was able to strike out the batter (Trina Zagar-Brown) in the photo. League games are played Mondays and Wednesdays at Paintbrush Park, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Results of Meeker Run for Your Life 5K

There were 20 runners in the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan-sponsored Run for Your Life 5K (3.1 miles) on July 4. The winner was Meeker High School distance runner Austin Russell, who ran away with the 2016 Range Call event. He had a time of 18.57 seconds, more than 45 seconds ahead of second place runner Marty Casey, who won the men’s 30 to 39-year-old group with a time of 19:42, and third place Terrance Casias, who turned in a 20:33 and who captured the 19 to 29-year-old group.

Main Street Madness…

The Warriors were the winners of the sixth- through eighth-grade Main Street Madness three-on-three boys basketball tournament sponsored by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Parks District on July 4 in downtown Meeker. The Warriors were made up of, from left, Tanner Etzler, Colton Terry, Wesley Counts and Thayne Kitchens from Craig. Not pictured, but winners of the ninth- through 12th-grade division were Team USA members Stephen Walsh, Connor Murphy and Brennan Jenson of Meeker.

County commissioners table public hearing on new ERBM service plan

RBC I A number of rumors, concerns and fears were put to rest Monday afternoon as the Rio Blanco County commissioners postponed a public hearing regarding a new service plan proposed for the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District.
