21 Meeker youths take part in triathlon at Meeker Rec Center

Several area youth participated in the ERBM Recreation & Park District’s Road Rash ‘n’ Splash Kids’ Triathlon on Saturday. MEEKER I Twenty-one youth from Meeker and the surrounding areas competed in the ERBM Recreation & Park District’s Road Rash ‘n’ Splash Kids Triathlon on Saturday at the Meeker Recreation Center. Each of the individuals and teams competed in swimming, biking, and running.

Softball for the ages…

Jim Overton is arguably the oldest player in Meeker’s adult coed softball league, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District, but the “old veteran” still has some pitches in his bag as he was able to strike out the batter (Trina Zagar-Brown) in the photo. League games are played Mondays and Wednesdays at Paintbrush Park, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Results of Meeker Run for Your Life 5K

There were 20 runners in the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan-sponsored Run for Your Life 5K (3.1 miles) on July 4. The winner was Meeker High School distance runner Austin Russell, who ran away with the 2016 Range Call event. He had a time of 18.57 seconds, more than 45 seconds ahead of second place runner Marty Casey, who won the men’s 30 to 39-year-old group with a time of 19:42, and third place Terrance Casias, who turned in a 20:33 and who captured the 19 to 29-year-old group.

Main Street Madness…

The Warriors were the winners of the sixth- through eighth-grade Main Street Madness three-on-three boys basketball tournament sponsored by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Parks District on July 4 in downtown Meeker. The Warriors were made up of, from left, Tanner Etzler, Colton Terry, Wesley Counts and Thayne Kitchens from Craig. Not pictured, but winners of the ninth- through 12th-grade division were Team USA members Stephen Walsh, Connor Murphy and Brennan Jenson of Meeker.

County commissioners table public hearing on new ERBM service plan

RBC I A number of rumors, concerns and fears were put to rest Monday afternoon as the Rio Blanco County commissioners postponed a public hearing regarding a new service plan proposed for the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District.

3-on-3 basketball winners named

ERBM to host Summer Jam cage clinic

MEEKER I The Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District will host the Meeker High School Summer Jam Basketball Clinic on July 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the MHS gym.


Winter Blazon, who plays for the defending coed softball champions Ace Trucking, is pictured getting a hit during a recent game at Paintbrush Park. The ERBM Recreation and Parks District sponsors the coed league, hosting games on Mondays and Wednesday in June and July. Ace Trucking remains undefeated and the team to beat.

ERBM turns 35, wants 35,000 visits

RBC I Through the end of 2016, the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan (ERBM) Recreation & Park District will be running a campaign to reach 35,000 visits at the Meeker Recreation Center during the District’s 35th year of operation.

Free fishing, movie Friday

MEEKER I Friday will be Youth Fishing Day in Meeker followed by Movie Under the Stars, all free and all held at Meeker’s Circle Park, across the bridge from Meeker Town Park.

Batter up…


The 2016 Coed Softball season, sponsored by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District, started Monday with games played on both Paintbrush Park fields. The league consists of six teams with games being played Mondays and Wednesdays, on both fields. The first game starts at 6:30 p.m.

Rockies skills challenge…

Several youth competed in the Colorado Rockies Skills Challenge hosted by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District in Meeker on Friday at Paintbrush Park. Participants competed in batting, base running and throwing. Champions included Gavin Allen in the 6-7 year olds, Wil Schwartz in the 8-9 year olds, Clay Randall in the 10-11 year olds and Damon Dade in the 12-13 year old division.
