Early on Fourth: Run for Your Life 5K walk/run will turn 36

MEEKER I For the past 35 years in the early morning hours of the Fourth of July, Meeker locals and visitors have gathered downtown to take part in a different kind of Independence Day parade: the Run for Your Life 5K walk/run. Last year the race featured 120 runners and more than 130 walkers.

MEEKER I The annual triathlon, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District, started in the aquatics center and finished in Paintbrush Park on Saturday and following are the results:

Felix y los Gatos: Summer Concert Series

More than 200 spectators listened to Felix y Los Gatos on Friday evening on the lawn of the courthouse in Meeker. The band, from Albuquerque, N.M., played a wide variety of musical styles much to the delight of those in attendance. The concert was sponsored by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District in Meeker. There will be other concerts throughout the summer. The Friday concert had it all: children, adults, families, great sunshine, lot of grass to sit on and great music.

ERBM to participate in Guinness World Record: World’s Largest Swimming Lesson

Thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world, including the ERBM aquatics center, will unite to be part of an effort to set a new Guinness World Record. The global record attempt for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL), will take place at 8:30 a.m., June, 20, when everyone is invited to be a part of a world record setting team for free. Parents can learn more about the phenomenal event by visiting WLSL.org.

MEEKER I June 20, tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fifth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record. The global record attempt for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) will take place at the Meeker Recreation Center.

Boys of summer…

The 2014 summer youth baseball and softball seasons, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Parks District includes two 8-10 teams, one 11-12 team and one 8-10 softball team. Games are played Mondays and Wednesdays through June 27, when the post season tournament will be played in Meeker. Meeker 2 will host Craig on Monday, June 16 at Paintbrush Park starting at 6 p.m.

Dancers on display …

The “On the Move” annual dance and tumbling recital was part of a weekend full of individuals, duos and teams dancing in the ERBM Parks and Recreation District-sponsored event at Meeker High School. Dancers were divided into age groups starting with creative movement and tumbling up through fourth grade Saturday and from fifth grade through 12th grade and adult tap on Sunday. Above is the grade 9-12 jazz group of Taylor Ahrens, Madeline Amack, Andrea Edinger, Alexis Gutierrez, Piper Haney, Sydney Hughes, Kendra Nelson, Caitlyn Shepherd, Hailey Simonsen and Jordon Smith performing “Fly,” choreographed by Kari Jo Stevens and her students. Hunter education is offered this weekend

MEEKER I Residents of Meeker and nearby communities will have an opportunity to earn their Hunter Education card by attending a two-day class offered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife at the ERBM Recreation Center.

Talent show…


Piper Banducci of Meeker is one of many people, ranging from very young to adult, who took part in the Meeker’s Got Talent auditions at Meeker High School auditorium on Jan. 15 with 11 performers passing the auditions.

Winter Blast…


About 70 sledders and pushers took part in the ERBM Recreation Center’s Winter Blast creative sled races Saturday at Paintbrush Park in Meeker.
