Donkey Basketball returns to Meeker this Wednesday

MEEKER I Those six-legged basketball players have returned to Meeker again this year as Donkey Basketball makes its way back on the Meeker High School gym floor on Wednesday.

MEEKER I The annual Meeker After Birth Ball, held annually to commemorate the local calving and lambing season will be held Saturday night at the Freeman E. Fairfield Center, 200 E. Main in downtown Meeker.

MEEKER I Seven Meeker FFA students, accompanied by high school sponsor and coach Trina K. Smith, traveled to Louisville, Ky., Oct. 27-31, to compete as an Ag Issues team in the 88th annual National FFA Convention and Expo.

Meeker FFA has great season, sending students to nationals

The Meeker FFA Agricultural Team claimed the state title and won Team Gold for addressing the wild horse situation in Western Rio Blanco County. They will represent Colorado at the national competition in Louisville, Ky., in October. MEEKER I Almost everyone in Rio Blanco County knows what FFA is—the Future Farmers of America. Now, the group website states that its now the FFA Organization and they’re not only future farmers, but also the future biologists, future chemists, future veterinarians, future engineers and future entrepreneurs of America.

Meeker’s After Birth Ball…

A number of dancers stuck around after dinner on Saturday night to enjoy the Harris and Lee Band, which performed at the annual After Birth Ball, which was a fund-raising event for the Meeker High School Chapter of the Future Farmers of America. The event was held at the Fairfield Center in downtown Meeker and served to benefit the FFA as well as to mark the end of the calving and lambing season in the area.
