Meeker Cowboy baseball team wins a pair; JV still unbeaten

Between rain and snow storms, baseball games have been played on the Paintbrush Park fields this month in Meeker, including the Little League teams from Meeker and Rangely.

MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboy varsity baseball team won two games last week, including a comeback win against Grand Valley in front of a home crowd.

Meeker baseball team victorious at home but falls prey on road

The Cowboys beat the Rams 14-4 in the first home game of the season played in Paintbrush Park on April 7. The Cowboys’ next home game is April 21, against the Grand Valley Cardinals.

MEEKER I The Meeker varsity and junior varsity baseball teams have played several games the past two weeks, including two at home and two against the No. 1-ranked team in the state, with another tough doubleheader scheduled for Friday in Hotchkiss.

MEEKER I The Meeker High School boys’ baseball team lost a doubleheader in Hotchkiss on Saturday, and, if the weather cooperates, the Cowboys look to rebound as they will host the Cedaredge Bruins on Saturday at Paintbrush Park. The first Cowboy test will start at 11 a.m.

The Meeker High School baseball team ended its season in the 2015 District tournament after a 6-2 loss to the Ignacio Bobcats. “We played well, we just never could get the bats going,” head coach Jason Browning said. “I’m proud of the season we had (6-13). We keep taking steps in the right direction. We competed well both in our league and outside of it.” Team members in the front row are: Ty Gibson, Doak Mantle, Cooper Meszaros, Noah Eichman, Trapper Merrifield, Uri Goedert, Hunter Garcia, Sheridan Harvey, Garrett Frantz and Cody Nielsen. MHS baseball team takes streak of four wins to weekend district tourney

MEEKER I The Meeker High School Cowboys baseball team will take a four-game winning streak into the district tournament this weekend in Delta, where the champion will advance to the state tournament.

Meeker senior pitcher Matt Frantz started against Hotchkiss in the first game of a doubleheader, in which the Cowboys lost both games. Meeker head coach Jason Browning said, “We play in a tough league, but I thought we competed well.” The Cowboys played in Paonia Tuesday, then they will play in Grand Valley tonight.

Cowboys drop two games to Paonia, 14-2 and 27-2

Meeker High School senior Kash Atwood made contact with this ball and hit a double in the second game of a doubleheader against the Paonia Eagles. The Cowboys traveled to Hotchkiss on Tuesday to play the Bulldogs in a doubleheader and will host them for another doubleheader on Saturday at Paintbrush Park.

MEEKER I “Paonia is always tough,” Meeker head baseball coach Jason Browning said. The Eagles were in Meeker on Saturday and won a doubleheader held after a JV game at Paintbrush Park. The Cowboys played in Hotchkiss on Tuesday and will host them at home Saturday.

Baseball season…

The Rio Blanco High School baseball teams played a doubleheader on Tuesday at Paintbrush Park in Meeker and the Cowboys won both games against Rangely. Meeker won the first game 12-2 and the teams were tied in the fourth inning at five before freshman Logan Hughes hit a triple and slid home safely after being batted in by senior Abrahn Gaeta. The Cowboys are currently 2-2 and will host Paonia on Saturday. The Panthers will play in Cedaredge on Saturday, looking for their first win of the season.

Season ends for Meeker, excited about the future

The Meeker High School baseball team (above) lost 3-2 to the Dolores Bears in the first round of the 2A state playoffs in Cortez, but everyone is excited about the future of Cowboy baseball. MEEKER I For the first time in several years, the Meeker Cowboy baseball team advanced to post-season play. And although the Dolores Bears ended the Cowboys’ season with a 3-2 win in Cortez in the first round of the 2A state playoffs, Meeker coaches are excited about the future.

Meeker Cowboys come out on top of RBC rivalry

Meeker’s Bruno Juarez jumps on junior Matt Frantz, who was the starting and winning pitcher for the Cowboys, with nine strikeouts against the Rangely Panthers. It was the Cowboys’ first and only league win this season, a pigtail game that will advance them to the district tournament to play Dolores on Friday in Cortez.

RBC I The Meeker High School baseball team finished the regular season with a 0-12 league record, and the Rangely High School team finished with a 4-8 league record, its four wins coming from beating its Rio Blanco County rival in two doubleheaders.
