Cowboys come oh, so close to the big show in Pueblo

Cowboys capture District 5 crown

The Meeker boys’ basketball team won the district tournament last weekend in Kremmling with wins over the Paonia Eagles in the first round and the West Grand Mustangs in the championship game. Cowboys; Dylan Mobley, Scott Smith, Trey Morris, Cooper Smith, Kevin Eli, Toby Casias, Raul Lopez, Jeremy Musgrave, Ben Fitzgibbons, Nate Walsh, Scott Smith and Gable Smith, will be the No. 1 seed in the Region 5 tournament held this weekend at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. The Cowboys (20-1) will play Del Norte (16-7) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, with the winner playing in the championship against the winner of the Lutheran (13-9) and Telluride (11-9) game. Only the champion will advance to the “Elite Eight” in Pueblo the following week.

MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys won the District 5 tournament in Kremmling in convincing fashion Friday and Saturday with victories over Paonia on Friday 62-43 and West Grand on Saturday 70-56. With the wins, Meeker received the top seed in the Region 5 tournament this weekend in Grand Junction at Colorado Mesa University.

MHS Cowboys defeat Dragons, tame Wildcats

MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys basketball team used scoring production from 13 different players on Friday night to defeat the Debeque Dragons in Debeque 77-44. The next afternoon Meeker took up where they left off as 11 players lit up the scoreboard in a 69-22 mauling of the North Park Wildcats.

Cowboys close season with wins

Meeker junior Jeremy Musgrave goes up for two of his five points against the Rangely Panthers. Musgrave and the Cowboys won the league and were given a first round bye in the district tournament. Meeker will play Paonia in the first round Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Kremmling.

MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys registered a come from behind 41-40 victory over the Paonia Eagles on Friday night, then secured their league championship Saturday against the Soroco Rams 73-40.

Cowboys push the 100 point mark

The Meeker boys’ basketball team, including Dylan Mobley (35), Trey Morris (11), Cooper Smith (0) and Gable Smith (25), played tough defense, holding the DeBeque Dragons to 28 points, while offensively they scored 95.

MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys used a strong team effort to score a 95-28 victory against the visiting Debeque Dragons Friday night in Meeker.

Pair of wins for Cowboys

Meeker Cowboy Gable Smith goes up for two points over a Vail Christian defender last Saturday in Meeker. The Cowboys won their first two games of the season with wins over Hayden and Vail Christian. Meeker will play two more league games this weekend, hosting the Plateau Valley Cowboys Friday and travel to Paonia Saturday.
