MEEKER I The Meeker High School cross country program has several new faces, including its coach, and they will all be in Delta to open the season Friday.

RBC high school golf starts today

Calvin Shepherd, who will be a senior at Meeker High School, will play golf on Rangely’s high school team for a second year. Shepherd and his teammates opened the season today at Battlement Mesa.

RBC I The 2013-14 school year has not started yet, but high school golfers in Rio Blanco County started practice Monday and play in their first tournament today in Battlement Mesa. Practice for football, volleyball and cross county officially starts Monday.

Hughes, Boesch compete at state cross country

Meeker senior Lathrop Hughes and junior Jake Boesch both qualified and competed in the 2012 2A Colorado State Cross Country Championship meet in Colorado Springs last Saturday.

MEEKER I Cowboy senior Lathrop Hughes ran his final high school cross country race in Colorado Springs last Saturday in the 2A Colorado State Cross Country Championships held at Norris-Penrose Event Center, along with teammate Jake Boesch, a junior.

MHS X-country team competes in Anna Banana

MEEKER I The Cowboys headed down to Grand Junction to run along the Colorado River at the Anna Banana Memorial Wildcat Invitational this past weekend, competing with 23 other teams from both the sides of the state.

Meeker senior Lathrop Hughes led the Cowboys in Grand Junction with a time of 19:09.

Panthers harriers finish 2nd at Rifle

William Scoggins of Rangely and Jake Boesch of Meeker lead the way for their teams, leaving a lot of runners looking at their heels as they finished in third and fourth place respectively at the Rifle Cross Country Invitational. The two have had good seasons thus far and are making 2A coaches all over Colorado take a second look at the runners from Rio Blanco County. Currently, the two have recorded the fifth and sixth fastest times in 2A this year and both are looking forward to the opportunity to qualify for state at the regional championships this Wednesday in Delta.
