Cowboys send 10 to state track

Ellen nieslanik Toby Casias won the 100 and 200 at the regional meet and also qualified for the state tournament on two relay teams.

The Cowboy track and field team will send seven boys and three girls to compete in the 2011 Colorado State Track and Field State Championships, starting today in JeffCo Stadium in Denver.

LeBlanc receives team award

Head coach Mark Branch and the Cowboy coaching staff announced the Wyoming wrestling squad’s team awards during the program’s annual year-end gathering last Saturday in Laramie.

RHS Panthers end baseball season for Cowboys

The Meeker baseball team played its final home game on the road last week. Because of the weather, Meeker’s baseball diamond was never dry enough to play on this season, so the Cowboys had to play their scheduled home games against Paonia in Rifle and their final home game against the Panthers in Rangely.

RBC teams play for playoffs

Rangely’s Brian Rector makes contact with a pitch for a base hit in a game against Moffat County, which was called because of rain after two innings. The Panthers played Meeker last night and will end the regular season with a doubleheader against Paonia, Saturday.

Rio Blanco County’s high school baseball teams met in Rangely yesterday after press time for a doubleheader, which are the final games of the regular season for Meeker and will have district playoff implications for both teams.

Students from MHS attend FCCLA conference

Twenty-two members of MHS FCCLA attended the 2011 State Leadership Conference in Denver and returned with 12 gold medals and 10 bronze. The gold medalist will attend the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in July. Twenty-two delegates from Meeker High School were present among the 1,000 members, advisers, alumni and guests of Colorado Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) gathered at the Denver Tech Marriott from April 7-9 for the 2011 State Leadership Conference.

Chintala will give 2011 address

Longtime Barone Middle School teacher Greg Chintala will give the commencement address for the 2011 graduation ceremonies May 28.

MEEKER I High school art students show off some of the work they have created in the annual Spring Art Show. This year’s show will be up at the Meeker Recreation Center, starting Tuesday and running through Thursday during regular business hours.
