Veterans sought to join Range Call parade

RBC I This year, the Meeker Fourth of July parade will be led by members of our local American Legion Post No. 74, VFW Post No. 5843 and Ladies Auxiliary No. 5843, and all three groups are inviting any veterans from all services to march or ride with them during the parade.

A modern look at the Meeker Massacre Pageant

The story behind the Meeker Massacre and the Thornburgh Battle, events which took place in 1879, are dramatically portrayed during the Meeker Pageant at Range Call. This year’s performance begins at dusk on Friday, July 3 at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds.

MEEKER I “The Pageant” in Meeker during the Fourth of July weekend kicked off in 1938. There are participants who have participated for 50 years and now second and third generations are taking over the roles of their predecessors.

Bank robbery re-enactment Saturday

MEEKER I One of Meeker’s claims to fame was the dramatic attempted robbery of the Bank of Meeker on Oct. 13, 1896.

3-on-3 basketball tourney Saturday

MEEKER I Shoot some hoops at the Main Street Madness 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Saturday. Pre-register by July 2 to receive an event T-shirt and the early bird discount registration fee of $30 per team.

Milk Creek Battle Site Tour on Friday a reminder of history

MEEKER I While the Meeker Pageant—the annual dramatic re-enactment of the events leading up to and surrounding the Meeker Massacre—garners plenty of attention every year during Range Call, history buffs should take time out to tour another nearby battle site.

Concerts, rodeos, games, food and dances celebrate Fourth, Range Call

The grandstands at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds were packed for a number of events last year during Range Call. A number of events are scheduled at the fairgrounds again, highlighted by “The Pageant,” which is the re-enactment of the Meeker Massacre, along with rodeos and other events.

MEEKER I Endurance, perseverance and stubborn tenacity were characteristic of Meeker’s early pioneers. Not unlike those early settlers, today’s residents share many of those same traits.

Entries due for July 4 parade

MEEKER I The Meeker Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries for the Range Call Parade, to be held at 10 a.m. on July 4 in downtown Meeker. The parade will have the theme of “The Race is On.”
