2014 Fair Results: Part 1

This Rex buck rabbit owned by Gage Richardson garnered his share of ribbons at the Rio Blanco County Fair. Competing in classes 5 and 21, the rabbit took home a reserve championship, a championship, a first place and a third place.

RBC I Public meetings for all county residents who want to voice their input regarding the recent 2014 Rio Blanco County Fair are invited to a public input meeting on Aug. 28.

Painting entries at the Rio Blanco County Fair took on many looks and many mediums. One local artist who nailed the oil landscape in the seniors 60-plus class was Norma Oldland, who garnered a first place ribbon as well as the Best of Show ribbon in her category.

RBC Fair Results: Shooting Sports

RBC I In conjunction with the 2014 Rio Blanco County Fair, the Rio Blanco County Shoot-Off took place July 19 at the Meeker Sportsman’s Shooting Range south of Meeker.

Ellen Reichert of Meeker made away with a large haul during the horticulture competition at the Rio Blanco County Fair. Reichert’s Red Lake currants captured the fair’s horticulture Best in Show award as well as champion and first-place ribbons.

4-H Fashion Show…

Winners of their various classes in the Rio Blanco County Fair fashion review competition are, from left to right: Kolbi Franklin, Hadley Franklin, Tacy Crawford, Jayden Overton-Linsacum and Sarah Kracht. The fashion review judging was done on July 10.

RBC Fair: Horse Competition Results

The horse arena at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds in Meeker was a busy place Saturday from early morning to late evening as the horse show and all-around competition made for a full day.

Rio Blanco County Fair kicks into full gear on Friday night

On July 12, Rhett Long of Vernal, Utah, visited the Rangely 4-H Community Pens to teach the 4-H members how to shave a pig, what to expect in showmanship at the Rio Blanco County Fair and offer advice for feeding 4-H swine. There were more than 30 4-H members and parents, some from as far as Grand Junction, present to listen to Long. Bonnie Long, who organized the event, said, “Rhett did a great job and we had a great turnout from Rangely and Grand Junction 4-H members and parents. Thank you to Encana for adding monetary support for activities such as this.” In 2015, a new 4-H club called Elite 8 will be exploring livestock, leadership and will be putting together another clinic to inform 4-H members, she said. Every 4-H member at the event received a prize. The Rio Blanco County Fair officially begins Friday and runs through Aug. 2.
