4-H means pretty ribbons, life lessons, bovine bullies

adison Kindler of Meeker rounds the barrel as part of her horsemanship competition at the Rio Blanco County Fair on Friday. For her several events within the intermediate class, Kindler took the champion ribbon for performance and champion ribbon for high point.

RBC I Trophies and purple ribbons are pretty. They also collect dust. However, standing in the championship finals is an awesome feeling.

Rio Blanco County Fair moves into full swing today

The horse show took up the fair action on  Friday and Saturday but the livestock and exhibits of all sorts will keep fairgoers busy starting today and concluding with the livestock auction on Saturday evening.

RBC I Various fair-related events have been ongoing for more than a week now, but the Rio Blanco County Fair kicks into full gear today as livestock and other exhibits open to the public this evening after being closed most of the day for final judging.

RBC I The 2016 Rio Blanco County Livestock Sale will be held at 6 p.m. in the 4-H Community Building at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds in Meeker on Aug. 6.

Fair books available; events start Friday with horse show

The Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds looked quiet Monday morning, but with the county fair starting this weekend and next week, the fairgrounds will be anything but quiet and unhurried as hundreds of county kids and adults converge for the annual Rio Blanco County Fair. The building on the left is the 4-H Community Center, on the right is the Colorado State University Extension offices and the livestock barn and the art/food/crafts exhibition hall. To the far right is the arena, not pictured.

RBC I Rio Blanco County Fair Books are ready and available at the CSU Extension Office or throughout Meeker and Rangely. The fair starts this weekend with the Horse Show on Friday and Saturday. 2014 Fair Results: Part 1

This Rex buck rabbit owned by Gage Richardson garnered his share of ribbons at the Rio Blanco County Fair. Competing in classes 5 and 21, the rabbit took home a reserve championship, a championship, a first place and a third place.

RBC I Public meetings for all county residents who want to voice their input regarding the recent 2014 Rio Blanco County Fair are invited to a public input meeting on Aug. 28.

Painting entries at the Rio Blanco County Fair took on many looks and many mediums. One local artist who nailed the oil landscape in the seniors 60-plus class was Norma Oldland, who garnered a first place ribbon as well as the Best of Show ribbon in her category.
