RHS girls’ teams end up as consolation champs

RANGELY I With the 2012-2013 school year just ending, many Rio Blanco County teams are using the offseason to prepare for next year, including the Rangely Junior/Senior High School girls’ basketball program, which hosted a tournament Friday and Saturday.

Lady Panthers finish second

Rangely starters Brittany Babineaux (20), Chelsea Ficken, Leslie Hernandez (4), Quincey Thacker (24) and Kelsey Prosser were not intimidated by the undefeated, defending state champion Lutheran Lions, their opponent in the Region 4 championship game. The Panthers took an early lead but were unable to play the “near perfect” game needed to defeat the Lions.

RANGELY I Basketball coach Quinton Kent has spent the last four years with the Lady Panthers basketball program, three as an assistant. The team has qualified for the regional tournament all four years but hadn’t made it past the first regional game until this year, Kent’s first year as head coach.

Lady Panthers advance to Region 4 tournament

The Lady Panthers will play Wray in the first round of the regional tournament to be held at Mullen High School in Denver this Friday with the tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

RANGELY I The lady Panthers’ basketball team will play the Wray Eagles in Denver this Friday in the Region 4 tournament after playing two games in the district tournament last weekend in Paonia. Head coach Quinton Kent is excited about his team’s post-season opportunity.

Lady Panthers drop two

RANGELY I The Rangely girls’ basketball team lost games to Paonia and Hotchkiss last week and will play their final game of the regular season in Meeker, this Friday. Rangely hosted Paonia last Friday and lost 26-55, to the league’s No. 1 team.

Same story, different game for RHS girls

RANGELY I “It was the same story, different game,” Rangely girls’ basketball coach Quinton Kent said of his team’s 41-28 win over the Vail Christian Saints last Saturday at home. “We got off to a somewhat slow start but then buckled down defensively in the second half and pulled away.”

RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team only played one game last weekend but came home from Collbran with a 41-28 victory, with all but one Rangely player getting in the scorebook.

RANGELY I The lady Panthers basketball team took their show on the road last weekend, playing in Baggs, Wyo., Friday last and then traveling to Kremmling for a game against the West Grand Mustangs. Rangely lost to Little Snake River 32-46, then beat West Grand 50-33.

Rangely girls win two last weekend on home court

Rangely girls’ basketball coach Quinton Kent said “our defense carried us,” referring to wins the lady Panthers earned on their home court last week against North Park and Little Snake River. Rangely held North Park to just 13 points and only allowed Little Snake River to score 20. Playing defense for the lady Panthers against Little Snake River are Brittany Babineaux (20) Quincey Thacker (24), Kelsey Prosser (11), Chelsea Ficken and Aimee Hogan (3).

RANGELY I Rangely High School girls’ basketball coach Quinton Kent credited his team’s most recent wins to their defense. The lady Panthers defeated the North Park Wildcats last Thursday, then defeated the Little Snake River Rattlers Friday last. Both were home games.
