RHS team qualifies 10 for state meet

RANGELY | “The Rangely track and field team did great last week at the Western Slope Regional meet,” Panther head coach Stephanie Kahler said of her team’s performance, which was good enough to qualify 10 athletes in 13 events, including three relay teams. “We went from four qualifiers last year to 10 this year.”

Battle Mountain High School played host to a weekend full of personal records for the Rangely High School Panthers track and field team.

RHS track team holds on to trophy

For the first time in several years, a high school track meet was held in Rangely last Friday where several athletes earned personal records and the boys’ team won the meet, keeping the first place trophy in town.

RANGELY I Last weekend was Rangely’s  very own “Rangely Open” track meet.  Even though it was a very small meet, the majority of the Panther athletes continued to excel in their times, distances, heights and lengths.

RANGELY I This last weekend was filled with personal records for the Rangely High Panthers track and field team. The team traveled early Saturday morning to Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction to participate in the Frank Woodburn Invitational hosted by Palisade High School.

Brenton wins track & field national championship

RHS graduate Jason Brenton won a national title in the triple jump last weekend at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Mankato, Minn. Brenton also earned All-American honors for a fifth time, with a fifth place finish in the heptathlon.

RANGELY I After earning All-American honors three times on the Western State College Mountaineer track and field team, Rangely graduate Jason Brenton took three years off from competing in track but returned this year to win a NCAA Division II national title in the triple jump.

Four Panthers to state

Matt Scoggins The Rangely Panthers qualified four athletes for the 2011 Colorado State Track and Field Championship, starting today in Denver. Sophomore William Scoggins will be running the 3200, senior Marie Morton will be competing both in the shot put and discus, senior Victoria Phelan will be competing in the triple jump and freshmen Andrew Morton will in the high jump. Events begin this Thursday and conclude on Saturday.

The 2011 Panther track season has come to the end for all but four athletes. Rangely will be sending two seniors, one sophomore and one freshman to the state track meet this weekend in Denver.

Final chance to qualify for state track

This year, in order to qualify for the Colorado State Track and Field Championships, an athlete must post a time or distance in the top 18 in the state as there is no longer a regional meet where the top three times/distances qualify.

The Rangely High School track and field team traveled to Vernal, Utah for the Uintah Invitational meet and then to Grand Junction for Palisade’s annual Frank Woodburn meet last weekend.
